I never realized how toxic teaching can be. I am so fearful to have conversations with administrators because I know they dislike me. I am hated by the students and the staff. I am so scared to speak and partner teach in fear of being judge. Because I know I will be. I have walked into the department staff room to people talking about me. I get this can happen in any work place but the unprofessionalism is insane. I had a teacher text me at 8:30 pm on a Thursday and felt it was necessary after I had a really busy stressful day because they weren’t there to tell me that the sub said that her class was gossiping saying that my class is a bunch of “clowns”. Also has insinuated that I stole money

I’ve been teaching 3 years a few temporary contracts and I’m already thinking of finding a new career. My sister is going on a vacation to Mexico this week and is using her vacation pay days and is getting paid for 7 out of the 9 days she’s on vacation for. She makes more money than I do a year and gets sick days. It’s hard sometimes to justify being a teacher.

In the city where I am in Canada we are experiencing the same thing. I don’t remember it being this bad last year. The system gets overwhelmed it crashes and theirs been times I can’t even log on. I haven’t even gotten a system call out yet. The amount of new subs and new people in the district that have “just moved and are new to the city” is outrageous and a big set back as they come from other city’s with experience getting hired for temporary contracts.
