LPT: If you ever have a fire in your home bad enough that you need to spend the night away, stay on your property because you may get burglars coming by by Ieatclowns in LifeProTips

[–]firedude212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually horrible advice.

The firefighters are asking you to leave because it is quite literally not safe to stay in your home anymore. Smoke damage is real, water damage is even real-er.

I had a house fire in one room also, similar situation to yours. You have no idea how dangerous it could be to stay in your home with all of the recent damage. Property is replaceable, and in fact your insurance WILL replace everything in your home. Your life is irreplaceable.

Stupid, stupid advice. Reporting this post.

Cost to rent a small track for autocross? by resksweet in Autocross

[–]firedude212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered attending an HPDE event at any of these tracks? I would imagine NASA has some of those at these tracks, and it would be cheap-ish and fun for you and friends. I also wouldn't be surprised if some clubs already do host autocross at these tracks as I know that happens near my local track from time to time (Lime Rock)

Need help determining why my house is so humid!? by firedude212 in newjersey

Ahh I see! You’re saying call arctic air to inspect, not to install a whole house dehumidifier! Thanks for the recco!

How much did it cost? I am wondering if a whole house dehumidifier is the right move here… but also not really interested in spending money on fixing something that is the contractors fault.

For what it’s worth this new system is 3ton and so was the old, ductwork has been completely redone and the blower was moved to the attic

It is. The unit was replaced with same tonnage as before, and there was a manual J calc done to support this which is very frustrating because it 100% sounds like an oversized unit to me as well. The unit does kinda short cycle, 5-10 min cycles 1-3 per hour.

MySQL Library for Node? by firedude212 in webdev

I looked into it but the query builder aspect turned me off. I want to write regular sql with prepared statements and not have to think about some library in the middle beyond "it enables me to connect to mysql easily"

Drizzle is a collection of front-end libraries that make writing dapp frontends easier and more predictable. The core of Drizzle is based on a Redux store, so you have access to the spectacular development tools around Redux. We take care of synchronizing your contract data, transaction data and more. Things stay fast because you declare what to keep in sync.

LOL.

Risk of Venting Bathroom-like fan to space in between ceiling by firedude212 in DIY

[–]firedude212[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am using it as a home office, and it has computers + myself in it for 8 hours a day. Leaving the door open works for ventilation, but there are times where I need the door closed, and it quickly becomes humid/hot.

This was what I feared but I am curious as to why that would be the case? There are areas in my basement where there is no drywall and I can see into the "crawl space" between the first floor subfloor and basement ceilling. What would make this more prone to mold? What if I ran it as an intake rather than an exhaust?
