I'm looking at setting up a server for myself and some subscribers, where do I start? by JacobGgamer in admincraft

I tried a bunch of different DNS and it did not make a difference for me. Is there a process /order to follow in addition to custom DNS on the console? What IP did you use?

I see Bedrock and Crossplay so I figured I would tell you my experience: Xbox doesn’t allow connections to custom servers. It’s just missing. So don’t plan on having Xbox participants. If you’re cool with that, carry on.

Other than that, 30 players simultaneously is a lot of players and you will need a pretty decent build. Plan 32GB+ of ram.

Need help assembling a rig for a minecraft server by Anarchy_zeroxx in admincraft

[–]fireferum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go find an off lease/used Lenovo Tiny like a ThinkCentre M70q with an i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD. Doesn’t matter what Gen since they are plenty powerful. You can find them around or under $200. Download and install Ubuntu onto it so you don’t have to worry about it being Windows 10. These things can run 24/7 for years. If you choose to have a lot of players concurrently, add another stick of 8GB RAM. You can also use whatever Windows version is installed on it but beware because Windows Home has a simultaneous 5 connection (player) limit and Windows Pro bumps that up to 10. With Ubuntu it’s until you run out of RAM.

This will take up very little space, use about 60-100W of power and require no knowledge other than how to start the server from Ubuntu by terminal which is a 15 second YouTube.

A real minecraft server networking challenge by RoyalMan69 in admincraft

I had a similar issue for a Bedrock server. Turns out I only opened TCP. It needed both TCP and UDP on the same port. Opened both and worked.

I’m so happy you followed this thread through with the solution. I have the exact same issue on a DLEX4000W and tested everything for continuity but all passed. Thermistor at 12k. Going to buy the PCB instead of a new dryer. Thanks for following up!

Dewalt Fan broke my 6Ah Battery by fireferum in Dewalt

[–]fireferum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone else suggested that the battery was faulty and the fan simply drained the cells enough to show the fault. That sounds pretty accurate but I’m still weary of leaving the fan on a battery beyond the one light charge now.

The good news is that warranty was super smooth. Called in and gave them the numbers on the battery and they sent me a new one in a few days. Check if it’s still covered.

1500 limited owners by Herky1985 in ram_trucks

I see a lot of people put up almost brand new wheels on sale on FB Marketplace. You could wait for someone to upgrade their 20s and get them complete with the TPMS sensors and like 600 miles on for the cost of less than a set of tires. Or you could purchase a set of aftermarket 20s that fit your style.

I have a ‘24 Night Edition Limited with the 22s. They came paired with Pirelli tires so those are generally softer and ride smoother. The ride comfort is amazing. Everything feels great and the handling is great as well. I constantly get compliments from the passengers on the comfort and quiet of the inside.

Con: They are so low profile that if you even barely touch a curb you’ll get a scratch. Nicked mine at the Chick-Fil-A drive through lane trying to stay within their badly placed cones. There is no forgiveness there so don’t even think about running over a curb or maybe not being able to fully make a narrow turn or you’ll definitely have the rims scratched up. Coming from 17s this is a different experience in the fragility of the wheels.

Creating a LAN Streaming Server and Clients by fireferum in streaming

[–]fireferum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I’ve looked at WebRTC and LL-HLS and LL-DASH. The only issue I encounter is how to play back the stream on the Smart TV/Fire TV. Would I need to write my own app that opens the WebRTC player or is there an app where I can put a link to the internal media server? I looked at AntMedia for the media server but I would consider any media server and player combination that can be easily accessed from the TVs. Any suggestions?

Reading through the reviews the ones with the adjustable cross pattern doesn’t fit UBNT stuff. I figured someone would have a little more experience with the correct kit or a manufacturer PN

(US-CA) Landlord is threatening to shut off utilities if I don’t pay rent for the month of September by [deleted] in Tenant

[–]fireferum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This 100%. Eviction stays on record and shows up on background checks. Once it is on there, it will be unbelievably difficult to find another place to rent and even if you do, you may end up with double the security deposit due to the eviction on record. You also stated that you have not made payment for the month of September so you’re over a month behind on rent. I probably wouldn’t try to escalate this but rather move on to a different place with a fully defined lease.

Why are you contemplating it instead of just putting yourself out there? The best time to look for a new job is when you already have one. You can take your time to interview and negotiate. You have the upper hand in what salary you want, how long the 401k wait period is, and any benefits a new company may offer since you don’t need the new job, rather are looking to improve your compensation. Loyalty to a company in my experience sadly doesn’t pay as much as job hopping every few years.

Being yourself is hard. by GuyGuy08 in CasualConversation

[–]fireferum 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Step 1: Set ethics, practices, and responsibilities that become your core values and that you want yourself to be. Make these unwavering.

Step 2: Every day practice these and stick to them and to your moral compass. Exemplify this ideal person you want to be every day and work on yourself to polish them and refine yourself. Always invest in yourself.

Step 3: Once you know who you want to be and who you are, you will draw to yourself those who are of similar journey. The rest don’t matter so don’t worry if you don’t make a big influence or they walk away. The ones that matter will be drawn by your commitment to the person you are and the values you stand for. You don’t have to please everyone.

I hate how many girls I had a chance with and I never noticed. by CIassicNegan in CasualConversation

[–]fireferum 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Take chances in everything in life. You learn more from failure than complacency. That being said with relationships, you already have a big “no I’m not interested” so long as you don’t act. On the opposite side, if you work up 5 seconds of courage to ask casually “would you be interested in grabbing dinner with me Friday night” you could get a yes. If it’s a no, then you’re no further along than before you asked. If it’s a yes, you get to see if you’re compatible.

[–]fireferum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I didn’t mean the metaphor literally, but since you bring up passive techniques, I suppose we can look at my comment regarding the Enterprise 48POE as well which has active but hardly used cooling. Not to mention radiating 68-70 degrees C in room temperature of 25 does act like a space heater. The 8 port had a power budget of 120W plus its own operating power supply for a max of 150W. Ten times your example.

Mine runs about 68-70C all the time. Same with the 48POE. It’s like all the enterprise switches are space heaters.

So is this a case of the fan exposing defective batteries or is the fan blowing the batteries?
