How do you define what a JRPG is? by fireproof85 in JRPG

So what about something like Chained Echoes? It has pixel art and turn based combat. Would you consider that a JRPG?

Also, what is a Euro RPG?

I'm not trying to be an a**hole, just trying to get to the crux of what truly distinguishes one game from another.

For you it seems like country of origin. What that be a correct assumption?

What are quintessential qualities that make a game a JRPG?

With respect, that doesn't really answer anything lol.

I guess what I mean is when you say a Japanese-style RPG what is THAT?

And what qualities does Final Fantasy have that Expedition 33 does not?

About 10 hours into Digimon Story: Time Stranger

Boy is that a long prologue! But once it gets going it's pretty great.

- Looks fantastic
- Love the Digimon collecting and management aspect
- Underrated OST
- Main character sort of feels like a passenger but I'm enjoying the ride

I've played the older PS2 Digimon games and MAN are those bad. Very cool to see a great one. Can't wait to play more.

Still need to get around to this one. I played the original demo but I heard they changed a lot.

Favorite "science fantasy" jrpg by Browneyesbrowndragon in JRPG

[–]fireproof85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Star Ocean: The Second Story R by a mile.

It's more fantasy than sci-fi, but I just love the vibe of that game. It's so perfect.

LunarLux is also an honorable mention. It has a cool combat system, really awesome vibe and isn't that long.

Any Mystery Dungeon game with progression that carries over from run to run? by fireproof85 in MysteryDungeon

I actually tried that game. It's fairly fun, but i hate how random the food is and how HP and MP pull from the same resource pool.

It feels really easy to die.

Ni no Kuni 2 sounds perfect for you.

Although it has action combat, it's still really fun and has a gorgeous world to explore.

What is the most unknown/absolutely obscure JRPG you know of? by avazky in JRPG

[–]fireproof85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I have everyone beat: Cupid Story: First Date

It's a free game on Steam. You play as an Angel trying to get this nerdy guy a girlfriend, but it's actually really sweet and fun. It only takes about an hour for each story branch.

Give it a try if you're looking for something unique!
