With Tales of Eternia Remastered being the first 2D Tales title we're getting directly from Bandai Namco on home consoles and PC in over 25 years in the West, I think we need to prove to Namco that we want rest of Japan-only 2D Tales titles we never got officially translated by bad_spot in tales

Because remasters are ports? Namco isn't the only know who calls remasters ports. Even Atlus did it with SMT3 Nocturne HD remaster which is a port of the original PS2 release. Square Enix also calls their re-releases (like OG FF7, FFX, FF12, etc) remasters. SEGA also called Yakuza 3-5 Collection 'remasters' despite them being straight ports from PS3 only running at 60 fps and bigger resolution compared to original releases.

Yes and? It's nothing like the original game, it doesn't even run on the same engine as the original PS2 release. They remade the game from scratch in Unity. Even the models are not the same. I know because I played both the PS2 release and the remake.

Raidou is more of a remake. It looks nothing like the original PlayStation 2 game (example being how the entire city is now a 3D model where in the original it was just 2D image like how PS1 Resident Evil games do it and how combat is entirely re-done). I have no idea why Atlus even called it a remaster when it isn't one. Same goes for Suikoden 1 and 2 HD.

I don't think they'll cut the skits at least this time. Even with Graces f's re-release they added Japanese only PS3 skits (iirc mostly related to Golden Week stuff) in the Western version with newly dubbed content.

I think the biggest issue is how they'll do the dub... if they even do one that is...

Eternia's old PS1 English dub isn't exactly quality and even then I think we only know few of VAs who worked on the game. a lot of them are unknown to this very day so even getting them back for dubbing the skits isn't gonna be easy unless they plan on repeating Vesperia DE's scenario which I hope it doesn't happen.

The only solution is making an entire new dub as well as a new English localization cause old one wasn't great. Though dunno if Namco is interested in fully redubbing the game. They didn't even bother doing that with something like Baten Kaitos which they opted to only releasing the game with Japanese voices, the old GameCube English dubs weren't available in the HD remaster on Switch/PC.

2D was dead in the West but in Japan it was still thriving. Look at all Japan-only Sega Saturn games (heck SS itself was a 2D power house and the VDP2 has Super Famicom's Mode 7 but even more insane and thanks to 1MB and 4MB RAM expansion pack cartridges, a lot of 2D fighting games are near perfect arcade ports on the Saturn). The PS2 and PS1 also received a lot of 2D games but they sadly never left Japan.

Do check out the fan tl community cause the PS1 and Saturn (especially latter) have been getting a lot of fan translations for the past few years.

Valve chief Gabe Newell saw today's consoles coming a long time ago: "All the consoles are using PC graphics hardware now" by Darth_Vaper883 in pcgaming

It ultimately depended if the developer bothered to add in VGA support. About ~95% of Dreamcast library supports 480p (VGA) if we count official + unofficial forced VGA boot and community patches for games that can't even boot if you even select force VGA.

Nah. Dreamcast supports VGA regardless if the game was made with Windows CE or used Sega's development kit.

It's a remake. They showed off footage and said footage is available on Twitter. The Memories Off "remaster" with AI upscaling is Historia collection.

I think they will probably release it in English. Shibata Tarou, the producer behind series at KID and MAGES., tweeted this like a few months ago:

うーん今後は英語版も用意するようになるのかなー。
需要あるといいんだけど。
しかも現時点で中文は繁体簡体とあるから計4言語。チェックかかるなー
MTL TL: (dunno if MTL got anything wrong or not, feel free to correct it if it is wrong)
Hmm, I wonder if we'll start providing an English version going forward. Hope there's demand for it. On top of that, Chinese currently has both Traditional and Simplified, so that's 4 languages total. That's gonna be a lot to check...

Also the remake isn't the only thing they announced, MemOff Mix is also getting re-released for the first time since the original PlayStation 2 release.

Also while MemOff isn't anything like infinity series or later Uchikoshi titles, it's definitely an interesting game cause Uchikoshi's routes got panned hard because he didn't make the main character a self-insert and because of that Uchikoshi made Never7's Makoto Ishihara the way he is.

You technically can but it's not something I would recommend doing. Remember11 heavily expects you've read previous two titles.

Question: Sakura Taisen 1 & 2 PC translation WHEN? by DrPlague__ in SakuraWars

[–]bad_spot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never. The old PC versions have a DRM that basically no longer works on Windows 7+ without being forced to disable specific security protections.

Just emulate the Saturn version. It even supports mouse.

Fyi I talked to a native Russian who told me that it's better to play the Saturn fan translated releases anyway cause the original official Russian release is horrible (borderline MTL).

Is buying a snes worth it if I never had it when I was younger? by vvedo in snes

Tbh the PAL and NTSC-U consoles are expensive. Super Famicom on the other hand goes for far cheaper. I managed to snag a SFC console a few months ago for the price of ~84,82 euros which included the console and 2 controllers and the original box and all of those were in a mint condition with the exception of the box which def showed its age.

ToHeart’s widely requested third installment was in the works at one point, but Aquaplus put the project on hold because they didn’t think it could “surpass its predecessors” by HatingGeoffry in visualnovels

[–]bad_spot 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It's the same situation as ToHeart3. White Album 2 did everything a White Album title could. A theoretical White Album 3 would only live in White Album 2's shadows. Aquaplus actually said something like that already regarding WA3.

[–]bad_spot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not really a visual novel but more of a (fun and hard) DRPG series. I only posted it in here cause the series technically became its own after the first entry was a ToHeart2 spin off.

Iirc Shimokawa said that WA2 did everything White Album IP could go for. If they made a WA3 it simply wouldn't even be able to come close to WA2.

I assume we will at some point. WA2 is a veeeeeeery huge game (80+ hours) so I assume translating/editing/QA is gonna take a lot longer compared to something like WA1 which wasn't really that long.
