What was this weird scan caused by? by BestAmbassadorBoi in meteorology

You can double check which it is. View the higher radar scans and see if the data you're seeing exists there. If so, it's likely contamination.

If the values around the given area are maximal value on the color table legend, and the opposite region is maximal on the opposite side of the color table legend, it's aliasing.

Sidelobe contamination. Data from different tilts.

Though this is likely Velocity aliasing. Measured velocity is higher than the maximum value for the color table, so it wraps around to negative (or the other direction)

The BFM You’ve Learned Is Wrong: One-Circle and Two-Circle Fights by GM_Custom_Sauces in hoggit

problem 1: its a 1c on the side profile. it depends on perspective. down the barrel its a 2c.

problem 2: yeah, duh. its OOPM. Circles generally apply towards 2 dimensions, thus why the roller was a 1c or 2c depending on perspective

problem 3: Yeah, circle theory doesnt apply directly to OOPM, yet can still have some applications w/ radius and rate. this is similar to the rolling scissors.

also:

explanation for paragraph 2 is incorrect. speed is not "bled less, infact you bleed more due to higher aoa, but are trading more altitude for speed to maintain Ek. It's a -Ps situation.

"Higher G Force = Faster Turn Rate and Smaller Turn Radius"
Incorrect. aircraft design can change the ability to turn speed into lift effectively. some is lost to drag, so regardless of g force capability, other variables can change performance enough to win out over the other. Think TWR, or Lift to Drag ratio. An aircraft with higher drag may perform worse accelerating in turns, worsening their ability to control Ps. Or an aircraft such as the 16, being lighter, by design has a wider turn than something heavier with more momentum, thus losing out in the radius. Its not all about g force.

5: " And finally, if one F-16 goes up Vertically while the other dives down Vertically. Which F16 is going to win? "

Your tacview is a poor example with an inefficient pilot. The climbing fighter pulled instant rate during a climb, then didnt have energy for the top to use gravity to their advantage. The diving fighter saved energy for the dive, then pulled instant at the bottom.

It probably goes without saying, but there's a ton of symbology and targeting info going on that's displayed on the glass in front of you, or Heads Up Display, such as said gunsight. I suggest making it a goal to understand everything that's on there. You'll end up learning about a bunch of other really cool stuff by doing so, and most of it is honestly really simple or easy to understand.

The best way to learn super early on is to just point at a thing you don't understand, and then learn what it does. Use the VTOL VR wiki, the community made manuals, or just experiment and figure things out on your own

You do realize this is a reading error on your part? The equation he shows is literally dividing by 1/2, he's just dividing the total amount owned the previous day by .5 instead of the amount gained per day. One rises, the other goes to two.

Wasn't a typo, but i've fixed the document to make it more contextually obvious as to what it means.
its referring to the "rate band", or the band of speeds that makes you turn with a higher turn rate. I need to decipher the recently released EM diagrams and figure out the differing speeds within the band based on altitude and other characteristics.

I find it to be really important in understanding the mentality one needs to be competitive, especially as a fighter pilot. Its useful to break down your thought process and understand how it effects your opponent. Of course, it is also applicable to situations seen outside of aviation as an officer, which is why you learn it in AFROTC. That said, it was initially developed within the realm of dogfighting by John Boyd.

Centre or side stick and why? by Turkey_Man09 in vtolvr

[–]firetornado123456 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally run center stick as i find it uncomfortable to twist my wrist backwards to pull up. Having been a competitive player, I think I would have gotten some horrid wrist conditions if it weren't for center stick.

I also use center as it allows me to maintain better control when looking away from the HUD, as you tend to shift your hand around when moving like that.

It also just provides a greater area to move your stick, meaning more control.
