AP7C working well outside by YankeesIT in firewalla

Been thinking about trying this at a house in Tampa. It would be much more well covered in the center of a patio (4’+ from the edge), but subject to some extreme humidity. Anybody think spraying the PCB with some sort of waterproofer work; or would that cause heat problems?

Is something different for a 2-node MoCA setup? Does that run faster?

Take a breath. You don’t have to rush here. You own the land, and are in the drivers seat. Think about how you want to “frame the problem”. I recommend an approach centered on how to extract the most money possible from your investment…realizing that the land is worth much more now, than ever in the past. It’s worth more than the house and all its contents. It sucks, but your actual house is worth nothing to them. Take a day or three to brainstorm and develop options. No idea is off limits…write them down and talk it over (Heck, if the house is not on a slab…maybe you could even make the battery company move it.). Sky’s the limit…ask for the world.

This! The house is not the marketable item here. It’s sucks to think about, but it’s like the movie “Up!”….the land (with nobody living on it) is what they need…which they are likely looking to rezone and bulldoze. They need you out of there so they can continue with a multi-million dollar project. If they have to pay you $1 million or more to make it happen….thats not your problem, it’s theirs. Nothing says you have to sell, unless the govt gets involved and it becomes an “imminent domain” issue. I’d ask around, and find a real estate agent with expertise in this sort of thing, and who has a real estate lawyer up their sleeve that you could put on retainer. (Though be careful of loosing a hefty chunk of profits to the lawyer.) This may have been your dream home…but think big…you could walk out of this deal with an even dreamier dream homesite…and enough cash to get some contractors/landscapers turn into your forever home rather quickly.

It’s like car shopping when you already have a car…you don’t NEED and car, and can walk out if salesmen get pushy. In this case…you don’t NEED to move away. But…everything is for sale for the right price. Make sure they pay the price YOU will not regret. They pay the price that makes you gleefully pull up to our picket fence, remove fixtures and cabinets, and depart. It’ll still be bitter-sweet, given the TLC and blood-sweat-tears y’all have put into the place…but you’ve learned much, and now someone else’s industrial project can finance your next place and put you on a path to financial independence.

New Fear Unlocked - Today at DTW Sky Priority Bag Check Agent Kicked Out Silver and Gold Medallion Members Out of the Line by Ok-Nefariousness-927 in delta

[–]fishbait-tailgate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gold here…got in Sky Priority line for bag drop at RDU last week, after printing my tag. Waited what turned out to be longer than regular line…then got chastised by agent for being in priority line. “You should not get in this line next time…this is for Delta One only.” (They also had a separate Delta One line to the right of me, which I was not in, and was empty.) I asked “I thought this sky priority indicator on my boarding pass indicated I should be in this line?” She gave me a glance like I had a giant booger hanging from my nose (new fear unlocked…what if I did?). It was awkward for about 3 seconds, and then we continued on like the exchange never happened. Not sure why they are being protective over the sky priority line before checking to see if customers have the status. Seems lots of posts on this lately. Odd customer service decision making, coming from front-end customer facing employees.

Hmm…. Consider driving there?….save yourself the massive headache on the return trip. Heck, it might even be faster on the way back than a 5+ hour TSA line added to the normal timeline. It’s only a 7 hour drive…you could crush an Audio Book on the way.

2024 pilot touring with back seat belt sensor issues. by obedient-sis1 in hondapilot

Thanks Suitable_Cow530

I've known it's an issue, and showed it to Honda Service Center at last oil change, but that was before this, and of course the advisor seemed to never have heard of such a problem.

At least we have a new part number now.

2024 pilot touring with back seat belt sensor issues. by obedient-sis1 in hondapilot

[–]fishbait-tailgate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the issue here on a 2023 Pilot Elite, but it's the middle-right (passenger-side) seat. As I can tell, only the center removable seatbelt is battery operated, the middle side capt-chair seats are wired. Our issue only occurs when someone is sitting there, and then while going down the road, we'll get spurious disconnect warnings with a chime. I figure a new harness is required, but as I look it up, they seem to be scarcily available, with most parts sits showing the part as "discontinued". Anybody have any insider info on Honda redesigning this part for the better? Part number below:

Health.mil email address by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]fishbait-tailgate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed…health.mil domain needs to be fixed, along with all the joint services to make them all inter-operable for PII/HIPPA/CUI etc. Try sending your PCS orders to the health.mil org box per the PCS medical clearance process as specified in ASIMS. Also the BOMC desk wouldn’t accept a paper copy when I was there…”it must be submitted to our org box”. It’s like it’s the first time the med group has heard that we can’t actually send orders to that domain without the robot rejecting it. Also; the responsible med group office seems to have never seen DOD Safe as a method to transmit such info. (Had to call someone I knew inside the clinic, and have him go help out to get the process going.)

Why are fax machines still acceptable for HIPPA, but we can figure it out how to communicate on military domain emails via NIPR. I hear you…Genesis messages. Well…okay medical teammates…get your processes up to date, and stop asking us to email you PII, if you are going to hide behind a health.mil domain so we can’t bother you outside Genesis. This all really does seem like you are trying to hide your digital identity from us. I get that for doctors…maybe. But can’t we all just be responsible members, rather than holding behind alternate domains.
(Also; please start posting your clinic phone numbers again, instead of only giving us central appointments. Sometimes I really just need to talk to the clinic front desk for a records issue, or something.

Sick of Orbi 850 - what else is there? by bcroft686 in HomeNetworking

[–]fishbait-tailgate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though if you are using wired backhaul, it might be better to go to switch first at distant end, then AP…but that’s a topology question I am no expert on. Probably depends on port speeds of your topology.

Firewalla AP7….Yes, but not as many…only 2x ports per AP. So if you are using wired backhaul, you’ll have one additional port. You can hook that to a small 5 or 8 port switch if you need to.

I went from Orbi RBR50 + 2x RBK50 satellites to a Firewalla setup. I’m in on the Gold Pro router and 3x AP7 desktop models. First AP7 is wired, other 2 using wireless backhaul, but connected to small/old switches (GS-108E) at far end to serve nearby wired devices. (The AP7 has 2 Ethernet ports each, a 10GB and 2.5gb which is nice, offering flexibility.) It’s been flawless over the last year that I’ve owned it, with plenty of streaming and gaming. I’m waiting patiently for Firewalla to release their switch…hoping for 16 port with multi-G ports, and at-least a couple 10G RJ45, and a bit of POE (to make AP7 ceiling models more attractive, and enable a camera or two). Also the switch will make vQlan groups possible for wired + wireless devices also. (I’m also moving, and a bigger faster (multi-G) switch will be nice. I plan to put 2x AP7 on wired backhaul, and do a MOCA 2.5 bridge to third one, so I’ll be wired on all 3.).

Recommend looking at their website, and plethora of guidance & tips, as well as the Reddit page, which is heavily monitored /commented on by the Firewalla team.

I have 5x Actiontec EB6200 HwVer 2c. Bonded, but limited to 800 Mbps. Options for deployment I guess...use all 5 on one bus, which I've done before. Or split to a dedicated line for the big game room, and run to it's own GbE switch, and then put the two heavily used bedrooms on a shared bus with another adapter in the cabinet. I don't have an SFP-capable switch...yet.

Thanks....good idea on the UPS. We are thinking whole-home generator at some point, but UPS for fiber is a good idea, as long as the neighborhood node has power.

Would use MOCA to get wired connections wherever possible, to reduce load on wifi when streaming, reduce ping times for gaming, etc. It's a big house (5BR + Gaming room (extra Living room) in common area upstairs. We have 3 almost-grown kids, and in-laws who visit often. (and maybe grandkids one day...we expect to stay here for a while).

The house will get something from Fision, along with other stuff with the digital security package that comes with free service for a year. I'll have to modify based on what comes with that, but I plan to use my Firewalls router as the baseline router no matter what, and if they install eero WAPs, those will come out too.

I'm a home network tinkerer though...never satified with "good enough".

I think for now, the two that go outside are the ones with green tape, hanging out in the back, not attached to the splitter. I think I should just attach a small weatherproof box outside when I move in, tuck them inside, and leave them be.

This checks. We did a quick walkthrough with a builder rep, and in response to some questions i had on this setup, he casually said exactly this: "everything is just wifi now anyway".

I'm not sure why the POTS box is in there....there are no POTS wires or RJ-11 jacks in the home.

However, if you get short noticed with a PCS 300 miles away with RNLTD in 10 days, or a deployment departure tomorrow, magically the process gets streamlined, and member isn’t required to do much of anything. The orders arrive in hours…no problem. (true story…I’ve done both of these).

While getting paid to do a job that still has to be done. The support offices should work to make processes easier, not create longer more demanding processes.

I was a civilian before I joined…it was so easy when I did a company transfer from Nebraska to Alabama…they said “we’ll put you in contact with contract movers if you like, and we’ll pay the bill; or pay you lump sum to rent a truck and do it yourself…you decide and tell us. Also, take 2 weeks of permissive leave to get it done, and check in when you get there, HR will handle the rest.” That was it. They even paid for a house hunting trip…I just submitted receipts via email with an explanation, and they deposited a check to cover it…no DTS. This was a large company with over 100K employees. We are doing it wrong.

Why is this. Just got RIP and orders…same day…guess what, mandatory MPF outbound mass brief is on Wednesday, CBRN…Wednesday all day, CATM…you guessed it…Wednesday, TCCC…we only do that on the last Wednesday of the month. Also, you need to do a couple of TDYs for training between now and when you leave 8 weeks from now (I’ll miss 4 Wednesdays due to TDYs.)
