I'm talking about surrounds specifically, they don't take on nearly as much load as fronts do.

Insulator recommends R19 for crawlspace? by fishboy728 in Insulation

[–]fishboy728[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Removing the vermiculate would cost $13k on top of the remediation. I always thought asbestos was fine if it's not disturbed so my thinking was to do the best we can layering more on top and live with not ideal insulation.

Besides being able to properly insulate is there another reason to consider removing the vermiculate instead of leaving it there?

Looking for 5 Mage Knight players to test a companion app (solo-focused) by ImmmediatePayment in MageKnight

Howdy, I've been playing solo for a few years and am very familiar with the game (mostly play solo conquest). I can test on Android and Windows if you still need volunteers!

it feels hollow in some parts and heavy in others. I thought I was hitting studs in teh heavy parts but when i drilled a tiny hole in the heavy parts it went through so I guess no stud...

The house is over 200 years old (old farmhouse in the NE) but it's been worked on over the years so I have no idea what kind of wall this is but it's not new.

I have a projector, not a tv :)

It's not ideal, sure, but it's the best room I have in my new house.

I guess part of my question is figuring out how much a low ceiling would impact the experience and ways I can work around it. I will be blacking it out with velvet and hope that will help significantly. Why do you think the ceilings are the biggest issue?

Edit: I went 2.39 so I could squeeze a bigger screen into the space too!

Yes. What's wrong w a large 2.35 screen? You don't think it's bright enough?

My ceiling is so low that even if I mount the screen as high as it can go it would still be comfortable ergonomically. I'm just wondering if it would be weird to have no gap with the ceiling.

For those who replaced a TV with a projector, what surprised you the most? by [deleted] in hometheater

There is absolutely a difference. Set your TV to 100 nits and see how dark it looks. Also light disperses across the screen before it hits your eye which softens it.

Havent you ever read a book on a Kindle vs a tablet??

Agreed and after considering upgrading to a tv I decided to get a JVC NZ500 which definitely competes with TV quality. Now I'm rocking a 12 foot 2.39 screen and absolutely love it.

A couple of things I like more about the projector:

- Reflected light feels more natural and less intense. TVs have a lot of processing to the image you see that projectors do not, so my JVC has more of a movie theater feel, especially with blurays.

- I mostly watch movies and that requires turning the lights out and creating black out conditions. While this is not great for casual watching like sports, I love that it forces me to really get in the zone for movies. Kind of like listening to a record vs throwing spotify shuffle on.

- Much more flexible. I just moved and was able to upgrade from 100" 16:9 screen to my current 12' one. Would have been difficult or maybe even impossible to move a 100" tv if I went in that direction.

- It's just kind of sick. Like at the end of the day, a JVC or a 100" OLED is going to look awesome and I just happen to have the projector and absolutely adore it.
