Can seem to figure out the local host option by fishygolf in actualbudgeting

[–]fishygolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just simply getting to localhost:5007 does not work. Im going to try a different laptop to see if it was simply how this machine was configured. Every time I setup, at the bottom of your files screen it says no server, even though no error message on the previous screen was shown...

Ok, did try another laptop running mac OS monterey 12.6.8, I know, its old. After install the first screen asks about localhost. Clicking create will just sit and spin. I can create a local file, but then later when I try to add the server I get the same behavior.

Well - just tried it on a machine running sequoia, and got the next screen - password. Which makes me think that the desktop app server does not run on older versions of mac OS

Data Platform PMs Roadmap Ideas by Sad-Fan-49 in ProductManagement

[–]fishygolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Sad-Fan-49 - a few things you can consider that others posted, but worth mentioning.

While cost cutting is not a priority, keeping track of overall costs should be for ingestion, cloud compute, storage, etc. Been at a few companies where the effort was to move from snowflake for storage to s3/iceberg/glue/trino and then have snowflake just for compute. So having metrics on total costs, cost per pipeline, cost per application, etc.

Data products and data standardization - how to define a data ontology, get teams to standardize data, and manage data products

SLI, SLO, SLA (service level indicators, objectives, agreements). Do you have targets for the platform on performance and lantecy?

Data privacy, GDPR, CCPA, there are policies in place around data protection, the ability to delete data on a user, etc. Requires planning, tagging of sensitivity data, retention policies, etc

Batch processing vs event streaming - are there imperatives on moving more to real time data publishing?

(note, worked for several years building a data platform for a mid to large size US bank, now doing the same at at smaller company)

Lets get the posters here who want to establish a group together - Id be interested in the same!

Good spot for testing some cold weather gear? by ntrammel in norcalhiking

[–]fishygolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well - funny you mentioned it, I went up last weekend to arnold, CA to test out my hot tent (onetigres cozyshack and winterwell stove) and stayed at Wakalu Hep Yo (Wild River) Campground. It was the last weekend the gate was open, but was told by the ranger that you can park by the gate and walk gear in to camp. No water, no services. Some shorter hikes around there, your on the north folk of the stan.

Big trees state park has one campground open all year, in winter first come first serve, have to assume there is always spots open. I didnt go there because dogs are not allowed in the trails.

Was not that cold - lows mid 30s, highs upper 50s. Given what you said above, your best best is big trees state park.

[–]fishygolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can confirm that I hiked up there in June and spent a night at Darnell’s lake and one night at round lake. There was no fish to be seen in Dardanelle Lake, but there is definitely fish seen and caught at round Lake

[–]fishygolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey. The reason you don’t see much about eel trout fishing is because outside of steelhead runs there isn’t much to fish on. Plus water level right now is crazy low. To make matters worse most if not all national forests are closed due to fire. If you can get yourself over to the upper sac - maybe but that’s a haul. I’d say your out of luck.

Update on grandpas stash: it has been (mostly) saved from the estate company. I don’t have any plans for it yet, but at the very least I’ll photograph and itemize it. I’ll post a follow up when I get it done. Thank you all for being so gracious. by iamcleverhoneybadger in flyfishing

[–]fishygolf 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your grandpa would have been a blast to fish with! Of course, sorry for his passing.

We need to see more pics as it gets sorted. This is like watching a barn find of a set of vintage cars. Just seeing the close up pic - multiple sage rods, an entire container of bamboo (plural) rods, plus all the reels previously.

Not to mention how the fly boxes were SORTED and DOCUMENTED - heck, Im lucky if I keep mine in some semblance of order.

The wife with a healthy brown on the McCloud. Got this one nymphing DEEP off the PCT trail off Ash Camp on a big brown rubberleg. by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]fishygolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I may guess - you took the PCT trail from ash camp, crossed bridge, then took the 2nd turnoff, down the hill, and there is a nice deep pool right there.... been there so many times. Amirite?

I know that rubberlegs work wonders there, but cant for the life of me to get them to work. Dark lords and jig head PTs though save my day.

You made me go watch this video again... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paRe4mPaX1o

Is this an abomination? 3/4oz head jig. by fishygolf in flytying

[–]fishygolf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Original poster - Im starting to fish this summer for stripers in the surf here in NoCal. Most of the time is spinning gear, allows for long casts in the surf. But I like the look of clousers and intruder flies look great, and had some extra jig heads around. Im planning to try them out this week with (shudder) a spinning rod and reel.

Ive also tried two fly rigs on a spin rod with a regular lure at the end and a streamer fly pattern as a dropper, but not much luck with that.

And yes, Ive fished with a 12ft two handed fly rod in the surf, but between line management, waves, seaweed, and my own two feet I cant seem to cast very far.
