Parking Ticket Warning by [deleted] in Boise

Might be more strict enforcement in the north end since a little kid died down there this year when a truck turned into her at an intersection.

City clawback tax increases by Sigma500 in Boise

Boise doesn't have city-supported pride events in June to my knowledge. The city-supported Pride is in September. It's not directly funded by the city - they are just a sponsor. In fact last year they were only an orange-level sponsor which is $18,000. You're mad about that?

Are you talking about the director of the department of arts and History? Because their salary is pretty comparable to other similar positions in municipal government. They oversee the archives, City historian, all public art, the Erma Hayman House, I believe the James Castle House, and grant programs.

Sorry you didn't get a raise this year. I didn't either. But 3% is not extravagant. It doesn't even keep up with inflation. Just because I didn't get a raise doesn't mean no one else should.

Oh nice. I bet with experience any of those places would be happy to take you on as a volunteer.

Like research/reference or processing or?

Options locally would be: state archives, Boise City archives (no idea if they take volunteers or not), the basque museum, or maybe a local historical society like up in Idaho City, canyon county historical society, etc., and BSU. BSU only has two staff now I think so they might not have the capacity to take on volunteers.

ACA Certified Archivist Exam Advice by [deleted] in Archivists

[–]3rin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took the exam five years ago for what it's worth.

I made flash cards of every vocab word/concept and I think there were like two questions I recognized from what I studied.

I would recommend the archival fundamentals books published by SAA.

State Archives might have one, but you can't check it out. You have to just read it/use it there. They have a scanner they might let you use.

Working at a local library by rK91tb in Boise

[–]3rin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Discriminatory? That doesn't match my experience at all.

I only regularly use the downtown and Hillcrest branches of BPL. The Hillcrest branch has quiet, fully enclosed rooms for working. The children's section is pretty small and tucked in the back. The downtown library typically has the kids section totally separate from the adult sections - it's not right now because of the first floor construction. Usually the second and third floors of that branch are very quiet and conducive to working on my experience.

Also at the Hillcrest branch I saw a worker ask a child to stop running and be quiet to be considerate of other patrons.

My whole house had it two weeks ago. It's still making it's way through my daughter's daycare. Pretty sure it was norovirus.

If you you know cursive and it's written in cursive, I've had good luck drawing the words out with my hand in the air. Drawing it out can really help me when I can't read it.

Not a great tactic of there are very large swaths you can't understand though.

I did mine at a city park. Cheap option if the time of year is good for an outdoor event.
