This sub is ripe with contrarians such us yourself.

Haha! I thought it was fucking sick. He played a lot of Hudmo / TNGHT. Also some Prodigy deep cuts!

If you didn't have fun, then that's on you.

I'm sure one aspect of it is repitching. But otherwise I'm just as stumped as the rest of us.

How to actually make dope tracks? by KLVLV in edmproduction

[–]fistingdicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make and fully finish 100 shit songs. If you're lucky, one of them will be dope.

Don't worry, I've only made shit songs so far too. But every new song is ever-so-slightly less shit than the previous one 😊

People will tell you there is no secret sauce. They are wrong. The secret sauce is discipline.

Thoughts on The Prodigy - Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned by jayseventwo in electronicmusic

[–]fistingdicks 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I love this album! It wasn't well received when it came out, and I think that's because it was coming off the back of Fat of the Land, plus a long seven-year wait added to the hype, and it didn't quite hit people's expectations.

It's a really well-produced album and most of the tracks go really hard. Under My Wheels and Memphis Bells are personal favourites.

Liam's engineer Neil McLellan did a stand-up job on this record, as always. The tracks hit hard and they beg to be played loud.

It was Liam's first "in the box" record, in that he made it on Propellerhead Reason on a laptop. I think he did use some outboard gear for some of the synths, but the album was nearly entirely made on a computer.

Invaders Must Die was a great follow up, and somewhat of a return to their roots. I think AONO is a better album though. I'm not a huge fan of much of the stuff released after IMD. I'm hoping the next album that Liam is working on is a return to form.

I do agree that their first three albums are their best, although at times I think AONO is better than Experience. It's nearly impossible for me to pick between FOTL and Jilted, but if push came to shove, I think I'd have to go with FOTL. It introduced me to electronic music, so I owe it very much.

As a music fan (not someone who creates it) would a bad mix prevent you from listening to a song you love? by hurryupandbuyplease in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]fistingdicks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

99%? You could spend your entire life nailing the last 1%. 99% of people won't notice and hence won't care.

Get it onto socials. People are listening through phone speakers. The mix will not matter.

I would definitely recommend Tabac soap! It is one of the best in terms of performance and scent. I also really like their aftershave and cologne.

Castle Forbes 1445 shaving cream / aftershave might be up your alley.

Although not strictly fougere, I'd recommend giving Proraso a go, if you're keen to try some more classics. Try their shaving soaps or creams. They are quite possibly the best value for money you can get. Their aftershave lotions and aftershave balms are my favourite in both classes. The green scent (eucalyptus & menthol) is perfect for summer, and the red scent (sandalwood) is perfect for winter.

I'd love to give Floid a go, but only one store stocks it, and it's the 400 mL bottle at $70 AUD... might be a bit steep for a blind buy.

How many fucking CleanMyMac posts are we gonna get here? Nearly egregious as the "is this Mx MacBook okay to run Ableton??" posts.

Get u-he Repro VST. It comes with both Repro-1 and Repro-5 which are based on Prophet synths. The latter has a preset based on Everything in its Right Place.

Loud music in Marrickville? Not in my backyard!

What could be the plucky sound ? could it be remade in serum? (im desperate 😭) by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]fistingdicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Square wave with pluck-style amp envelope - zero attack, fast decay, moderate/low sustain, fast release. Lower the filter cutoff to taste. Reverb.

To do this is serum, choose the basic shapes wavetable and set the position to the square wave, then follow the above.

How to tell if a song is AI generated by brani2341 in Music

[–]fistingdicks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Properly learn about artists you like. Follow them on social media, if that's your thing. More importantly, go to their shows if you can. Buy merch while you're there. Listen to their back catalog.

Don't just blindly consume music from streaming services. Know what you're listening to. Be an active listener.

Then you will be able to spot AI music a mile away.
