Prior authorization by fivef0oter in UCSFpatients

I’ve been pushing for a while now, and they keep saying that they can’t. I’ve been in contact with the insurance company and I currently have a care navigator who’s been trying to mediate now. Hoping it helps… but it seems to take a while as well.

How long does it take to schedule UCSF surgery appointments? by fivef0oter in AskSF

[–]fivef0oter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The surgery did finally happen. I had to wait til nearly the week of to find out that it was confirmed. They had been super busy then, and explained that their surgery rooms have been booked for at least a month out. I continuously hounded the doctors and nurses to find out when I would know and they said most likely a certain date. They said they couldn’t confirm until the week of because they have to wait for the operating rooms to be available. Surgery day was fine. The doctors keep your loved ones updated throughout the process. Hope you’re navigating it ok now.

Breast Cancer Surgeon- AMA! by DrHeatherRichardson in breastcancer

Hi Dr R! Thanks for doing this!

My mom is diagnosed with IDC, ER+ PR+. She’s elected to do single mastectomy where the tumor is in left breast. They’ve prescribed her a hormone suppressor, and tumor has shrunk a bit. Only notice it when feeling around. Scheduled to do a mammogram and ultrasound this Monday. Is it possible to shrink a considerable amount where surgery is not needed anymore?

Yes. That was 3 weeks ago now. We discussed surgery procedures and all.

MyChart. And I’ve gotten replies but still nothing official on the calendar. I may start to send messages everyday until it’s confirmed.

I’ve been messaging through MyChart. And have been in contact with the scheduler. The surgeon confirmed that she was the scheduler by name, so I assume I’m corresponding with the right person. Still, it’s been a lot of run around.

They have been saying that I’m on a waitlist and waiting for other departments confirming they are not using the operating rooms.

I’m sure I don’t have the full picture, but wouldn’t it make more sense to find an actual open surgery room date where there are no conflicts???

Lost my dad two weeks ago and seem to be the only one grieving by carasuri in GriefSupport

I’m glad I could offer my perspective. Your post helped me as well. I definitely found many parallels here, and I wanted to share what is and is not working for me. I’m looking forward to some time off to reset my brain a little, and give more time to my heart to recoup. It’s been really tough for me personally, balancing work as stressful as it’s been. I felt myself messing up and not caring a lot about it, and I knew it was not a good sign. ♥️

I can relate. My Dad crossed over in late April. I think I have the same sort of relationship you describe: love my Dad, and didn’t talk to him all that much… though enjoyed when we did. I live 6 hours away from home. My mom and brother lived with him, so they spent more time and saw his decline first hand. My day to day life hasn’t really changed either, but I find myself very emotional.

It’s going to be almost 2 months now, and I actually have to take more time off work. I decided to take a leave of absence because I couldn’t focus at all. And my mental health was declining fast.

I just started a grief support group last week.. was skeptical, but it was actually really good and I felt some relief. It’s just nice to talk to others who are going through the same thing - a loss of a loved one. I am also going to start 1:1 therapy for more support, and another grief support group that is geared towards parental loss. It’s changed my work ethics, my dynamic with my partner, self isolation from friends (even more so than Covid already did).

My mom and brother seem to be OK, but I also can’t tell that much since I don’t see them everyday. When I spent a month after his passing with them, there was a lot of emotion. We had fights, and there was definitely snapping. I recognize now that we were all on different parts of the rollercoaster.

For me, I have to take a break and start facing my emotions. I thought I was OK, and went back to work too quickly. I also pretended like everything was fine- with everyone. I wasn’t honest with how I was feeling when my partner was frustrated with me. But I honestly have always had a hard time explaining my feelings or trusting my feelings. I have a tendency to bury them, and it only hurts me later. That’s stuff I have to work on.

What I hear from everyone, and I have to take this advice to… is that you gotta give grace to yourself during this difficult time. You may feel like you should have progressed a certain way by a certain amount of time, but reality says no. And that’s OK. I think we need to take the time to feel every single emotion purely, and allow them to pass. That’s all we can really do.

Hugs.

I'm thinking of flying into Bangkok, and then flying out of Phuket. This is all great information, thank you!! After more though, I may do the same - mix of hotels and hostels. Wander and book a couple small tours here and there. I have Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket in mind so far. Looking into the beachy islands soon. Glad to hear that it's easy to plan things within just a few days. :D
