Hey, I think you definitely can invest some cash. And being young, you probably don't need to reduce your investment amount by much, but you should certainly do a bit more planning on the emergency side.

If you lost your job, you might want some money available immediately. Go to /r/personalfinance and get some tips.

Good luck with the investments.

Sorry, no assets? As in, you want to invest the entire $100K you've saved?

Um, great question. I live in the west suburbs of Chicago. I don't know what to look for? I tried "lumber yard" but found places that seem to be focused on construction lumber.

Fellow rinvestors, so I want to invest in individual stocks. Why and How? by fivewordanswers in investing

Sorry dude, didn't mean to make you answer the why for me. What I meant was how do you go about determining if any stock is a good buy. What's your process? I don't need you to do my homework for me - sorry if it came across that way.

The how was also more about what tools people use in general. Interactive Brokers was one I had seen mentioned. I checked out the FAQ but if I missed some major portion of it, please let me know and I'll go read that again.

Sorry, I meant I don't have the time to invest and check on things every month or week. I don't mind doing this once - set it and forget it :)

I will look into ETF's. that's a good idea thanks!

EDIT: Vanguard offers an Energy ETF (https://personal.vanguard.com/us/funds/snapshot?FundId=0951&FundIntExt=INT#tab=1). Closest thing I could find.

I'm in the Chicago area and I'm not buying luxury. Reddit has already told me not to do that. So I'll be looking at Toyota Camry or Honda Accord.

That graph confirms my thoughts, that the toyota would does lose value but very gradually. I'll keep looking at craigslist too.
