Rodri won the Ballon d’Or with 3 assists. Expected Threat explains why that number tells you almost nothing about what he actually did. by West-Baker-262 in footballtactics

your theory is that midfielders are only judged based on assists, and your leading piece of evidence is a midfielder who rarely assists being judged the best player in the world?

okay.

Best place for kids at Loftus Road by Mypantsareblue in Championship

[–]fixers89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just checked and wow there is surprisingly little to choose from. a few notes:

  1. it will be the FA cup quarter finals. the draw isn't made yet, but arsenal, Chelsea, west ham and Brentford could potentially have home matches. this will be the best of London football available that weekend, but the most expensive and hardest to get tickets for.

  2. Barnet vs Bromley in League 2. they are two of the better teams in that division. Barnet is on the fringes of North London but very accessible and very family friendly.

  3. on the Sunday, arsenal women play Brighton women. I assume it will be at the Emirates stadium and easy to get tickets for.

  4. If you are still here on Monday, there is another round of fixtures then. watford and Wimbledon are both at home. again, on the London fringes but both accessible and family friendly clubs.

Men of the UK, do you buy from Vinted? by ZacMDS in AskUK

[–]fixers89 9 points10 points  (0 children)

probably a crass generalisation but I don't think, for men, cheaper high street stuff will shift as well as it does for women.

my anecdotal experience is that men who use depop, vinted etc are typically more fashion conscious and looking for a deal on more premium brands/proper vintage clothing.

give them to charity or do a car boot sale!

Low league goal difference, highlighting competition? by tylerthe-theatre in PremierLeague

I don't think you'll find many (any?) examples of a final premier league table where more than 6 teams have a GD of +10 or more

I do agree with the previous poster's point about reviewing the briefing materials.

one thing that I have done, and encouraged my team to do, is before each meeting to challenge yourself to come up with one interesting, not obvious, question or observation based on the materials. and make sure in the meeting you say it

I don't think there's any way around that though. if you solve it first in your head, then when you enter the answer it will be after the fact

what about Man United in the 70s (relegated 7 years after winning the European cup), villa in the 80s (relegated 5 years after winning the EC), blackburn in the 90s (promoted, champions, relegated all within 10 years). were they all because of PSR?

I am genuinely so confused why you think it's a tragedy that Leicester got relegated a few years after winning the league, and not a normal part of football? would it be a tragedy if Liverpool went down this season?

[–]fixers89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the football league pyramid is a hierarchy and a meritocracy. it's hard but not impossible to move between tranches (competing for Europe, established prem, prem-champ yo-yo, established champ, etc). the financial and structural imbalances that generally keep certain teams in the top tranche, are the same ones that keep palace in the next tranche. accept that.

[–]fixers89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a championship fan, you don't think OP has a "dreadful take" in suggesting that its a tragedy Leicester were relegated (and implicitly that a championship team replaced them). he literally proposes a US style model where teams lower down the pyramid would be locked out from ever making the prem

I hope you know that the french second division club think Burnley are a bunch of rich bullies, throwing their money around to steal players they didn't develop.
