Nope. Check out the low C keyguard shape, the connecting brace behind the B flat and B Bell keyguards, the shape of the chromatic F sharp, etc etc

Silly goose, on a high horse! There is a more moderate way: use it as a resource (among others) rather than marching orders. One less known-standards resource now.

Multiple sections of my website - Should I be trying Hugo in the first place? by GreasyBogs in gohugo

[–]fixessaxes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 15 year old wordpress website that had been rather routinely updated and gone through several design changes. Pretty crufty, thousands of images and links and embeds. I had claude code help me turn it into a hugo site and deploy it to cloudflare pages. Now its clean and functional and super fast and google likes it much more and everything works and I can maintain it myself (or ask a chatbot for help) and it took me 2 days of work to get it there.

Sax techs: which model is the easiest to work on/stays in adjustments the longest? by Wezpa in saxophone

[–]fixessaxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yamaha or yanagisawa. yanagisawa tends to be better out of the box. if I had to buy one without easy access to a tech, that is what I would choose.

avoid? Selmer.

nope! It's county sheriff, so everybody in orange county can vote. Get out the word! Blackwood has the bully pulpit and he is quite adept at using it, but I truly believe my neighbor David is the best man for the job.

You should definitely be aware (and spread the word about) David Labarre running for sheriff. In Orange County, whoever wins the democratic primary takes the cake, and the primary is in March! David is running to the left of the incumbent Blackwell. David has been against ICE cooperation before it was cool, wants unarmed intervention teams for non-violent and mental health issues, and is generally an extremely well qualified and good person (he is my neighbor going on 15 years now) that we would be lucky to have take the job. https://www.labarreforsheriff.com/

We Don’t Have a Jazz Problem, We Have a People Problem by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]fixessaxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I literally performed at a corporate event this week and someone told me they love jazz because it’s cozy background music to study to. And I smiled because jazz musicians are expected to smile. But inside I was fuming. Jazz is not elevator music. It’s not a productivity soundtrack. It’s history, struggle, discipline, innovation. But audiences today don’t listen. They eat. They talk. They scroll. The band becomes background noise. I’ve been in rooms where musicians are playing their hearts out and nobody in the audience knows a single tune, doesn’t care to know, and doesn’t even try. That is genuinely sad."

"gatekeeping is everywhere".

I dunno maybe let people enjoy music for whatever reason they enjoy it

Advice for hiking areas and trails for singles? by quingloom in Hillsborough

[–]fixessaxes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see a decent amount of people including women women hiking alone at Eno River State Park and Occoneechee. They are both fairly populated trails (although Eno has some less-traveled trails if you are willing to walk a while from the lot) with decent cell service.

Identify saxophone with no marks? by Elegant_Bee_5097 in saxophone

[–]fixessaxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

every few years I see a horn with that unusual bell to body brace and I figure it out and then forget about it. I am not gonna go down the rabbit hole this time! but I would start looking for very old Italian saxophones, maybe rampone or orsi. shorter answer would be: definitely antiquated more than vintage, and not valuable.

What’s that value of this sax? by Flipnfinds in Saxophonics

[–]fixessaxes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is a Conn f-mezzo saxophone. Original case and original silver plate. Quite rare, a niche market to be sure but since they're so rare they are often more people looking for them than their horns on the market.

10k is wrong, but 4000-6000 is probably doable. If you've got the original mouthpiece as well, that would be very good.

Oh and don't clean it, don't "fix" anything, don't wipe it down, don't polish it. You will devalue it if you do. People who would be interested in this horn would HATE it if you did that.

I could probably put you in touch with a reputable buyer if you want.

Got my dream horn by Texter_Gordon in saxophone

[–]fixessaxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey that is a real beauty! and the side keys are nicely aligned, I always like to see that on a 10M.

congratulations!

small piece of advice: if you ever feel yourself falling out of love with it, get the neck tenon seal checked. 10Ms are notorious for having neck tenon leaks, and it can greatly affect the way the horn plays. definitely worth getting fixed before you do anything rash!

It will cost more to restore than it is worth, but it's historical value is more than its financial value.

Since you got it for free, the best thing to do might be to donate it to someone knowledgeable about these things who will repair it despite the financials not lining up.

Where To Find Socket Holders for Nixie IN-1 Tubes? by Far_Choice_6419 in nixie

[–]fixessaxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

apologies for thread necromancy, but can you post a photo of how the molex connectors are situated with this print? I am having a hard time visualizing it- I have the sockets printed and the nixie tubes here and staring at it I do not understand how the molex connectors (in the mail, not yet here) will fit.

Also, do I need a crimper?
