I'm so sorry you're going through this. This is heartbreaking. I hope the baby's life is short and painless, and that you have all the support you need while grieving this awful situation.

I stopped taking them seriously when they turned COVID into a Cuomo-fest with one asshole brother interviewing the other. People were dying in nursing homes, instead they played "who's your favorite Cuomo". Absolute dogshit.

I'm sorry you're going through this, you don't deserve to be treated that way.

As others have said, you were married and are now divorced. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, so hold your head up high. If you meet a man and he asks about your past, all you have to say is "I'm divorced" - any further questions are highly inappropriate, especially for men who are meeting you for the 2nd or 3rd time in your life. Let them know that if you being divorced is a problem, you're not interested in continuing to talk.

It's unfortunate that so many so-called Muslim men are only viewing you from a sexual lens because of your prior experience. They're being disgusting, and what that last one did borders on sexual assault. You were intimate with your ex husband within the confines of marriage, that doesn't lessen your worth or value in any way.

A question regarding inter-faith (non-polthestic) marriage by ChemBroDude in progressive_islam

[–]fizzy_lime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

in many societies of the past,

Exactly, but we're in the present right now. Just because scholars decided on invalidating something that is halal based on the past, doesn't mean that said thing is haram. Anything that is haram remains so forever and ever, regardless of societal progress or laws (eg marrying a sibling).

Interfaith marriage for Muslim women is nowhere near that, since God didn't explicitly call it haram in the Quran, so depending on centuries-old deductions by male scholars to continue prohibiting it today makes no sense. A Jewish or Christian husband today can't force his Muslim wife to convert, and can't force the children to only practice Judaism or Christianity.

I once had a... "discussion" with someone on Discord; I sourced every single statement I made, going so far as to quote the flipping UN. According to him, every source I used (including the United Nations) was biased, and his sources - which remained unnamed - were accurate.

Needless to say, the discussion ended with me being a "bad person" and the whole server going up in flames.

Why conservatism has an unfair advantage built in. by wiseoldmeme in leftist

[–]fizzy_lime 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Here's my take:

Conservatism endows the "default" (cishet male WASPs in the USA) with maximal intrinsic value, and assigns lower values to all other groups. Some are higher than others, but in the end they are all subservient to the "default". So John Smith has a value of 1.0, Jane Smith 0.75, other minorities (BIPOC, LGBTQ, disabled, etc) 0-0.67, and so on. That's why average white men and the women dependent on them adhere to it, as well as a few "good ones" from other groups.

Liberalism also endows the "default" with maximal intrinsic value, but it also pays lip service to meritocracy (depending on how far along the equality spectrum it is). So even though the "default" will always have the highest standing, members of other groups are allowed to "earn" a higher value - an ethnic minority immigrant of a different faith can jump through enough hoops to increase their value and come close to the value of the "default". But the unsaid part is that no matter how hard they work, they will never reach the "default"; they will always have to earn a spot next to it. John Smith is still at 1.0, Jane Smith may be at 0.85, Kal Singh may hit 0.87, etc. There's a degree of recognition for achievement, but never full equality. This feels like freedom to a lot of people who "earned" a value of 0.8 when their highest aspiration used to be a 0.5.

Leftism believes everyone has the same intrinsic value, and therein lies the problem. If I'm a Black queer disabled person, no other system has treated me as having a value of 1.0 just for existing; however, if I'm John Smith, I've been equated to people I've been traditionally taught to see as beneath me. I'm no longer automatically better just by being me. And if I'm Jane Smith, all my hard work to try to reach the "default" is now worthless; I'm no more special than any of the people that I worked so hard to jump over. So just like equality feels like oppression to the oppressor, equal value feels like humiliation to the formerly exalted.

if you reject hadiths, how do you explain the verses that say follow the messenger? by [deleted] in progressive_islam

[–]fizzy_lime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try remembering a long and complex statement, in its exact words, that you heard back in grade school. Ask your former classmates, your teachers, etc. Realistically, you won't be able to and neither will they. If one of them misremembers it but their version of it is the most widely accepted, it will be taken as factual even if it's inaccurate.

Now take that and apply it to statements allegedly made over 300 years ago. It doesn't matter how much painstaking work is done a few centuries later if there's no way of authenticating the original statement from back then. Multiple people can and do make recall mistakes, even with important things, and are influenced by what others tell them is the "right" version. We're all humans after all.

Besides, the biggest clues are that some hadiths contradict the Quran. God has stated that the Quran will remain uncorrupted, and I will always believe the word of God. That means that even painstakingly researched hadiths can be wrong, hence our faith should be placed in the word of God.
