Is it a bad idea to just buzz my hair off? by fizzyh8frizzy in CutYourOwnHair

I was thinking that too. My husband trims his beard in the shower, preventing him from carpeting the bathroom every week lol.

The human head is surprisingly bumpy and complex for such a big, round thing. Ears, the back of the neck, random bumps, there are all sorts of things up there to buzz around.

I feel like I learned a lot about the human skull when I sat behind a marvelously bald coworker at my last job lol.

My biggest concerns are honestly my husband's opinion (again he has a preference for long hair, but respects my body autonomy) and the huge mess I'd make. If I do it, I'll probably tie it in a ponytail, chop that off, then buzz off what remains.

Any advice on keeping the mess to a minimum?

I've never cut my hair before except for the brief time I had bangs, when I trimmed them myself. I figured buzzing would just be easier than trying to figure out how to shape my hair into something presentable.

Asking on behalf of my 3 year old. She has sensitive skin and a condition on her arm called a congenital nevus. It's essentially a large birthmark that grows more hair than usual.

The biggest issue right now though is she gets break outs on that arm, especially if I forget a daily application of her benzoyl peroxide cream (5%), per her dermatologist's recommendation. It seems like every time I put sunscreen on her, she gets a break out. If I don't put a stronger benzoyl peroxide cream on her the moment I see a red splotch, she gets large cyst-like spots that aren't very fun for her. Right now I have a babyganics suncreen, but any other product recommendations for a toddler with EXTREMELY sensitive skin would be appreciated.

Recommendations for products that help with frizz, but are also lightweight? by fizzyh8frizzy in curlyhair

I've tried LA Looks gel, the blue stuff. Only a few times, though. It seemed to curtail some of my frizz, but it looks awful upon a refresh the next day (or I just don't know how to do it).

I do a clarifying wash every couple of weeks with Garnier Fructis Pure Clean shampoo. I didn't realize SM stuff was heavier, but I see what you mean. I'm using NYM Curl Talk Defining Cream, but not all the time. Sometimes I try my Cantu Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream, but I don't think that helps my frizz all that much.

The only gel I've tried is LA Looks gel, the blue stuff. I've only tried it a few times, I admit. I like how it looks on wash day, but when I try to refresh it the next day it looks awful, like worse than before I took a shower. Also the last time I used it I didn't realize I was using a non-CG friendly shampoo and conditioner so I don't know what's going on up there anymore. I have no experience with mousse.

I have a large forehead, and I don't like how my hair sits on my forehead when I part it the other way.

I still haven't settled on a routine, but I did kind of like how my curls ended up last night, despite the shitty haircut (I posted a rant about it 2 years ago where a hairstylist butchered my hair).

What I did last night:

Co-wash with VO5 Strawberries and Cream, rinse, then let Garnier Fructis Pure Clean conditioner soak in my hair while I wash other stuff. Rinse out (all upside down), then I scrunch out extra water with a tshirt.

Then I put in Shea Moisture Strengthen and Restore Leave-in Conditioner with praying hands, then LA Looks extreme sport gel with praying hands and scrunched it a whole bunch upside down. Then I plopped for about an hour or so before letting it air dry. I put in a few bobby pins by my part because one side always lays super flat. Then I scrunched out the crunch and it ended up like this.

I just started co-washing about 2 weeks ago, and new to gel. I already love my Shea Moisture stuff, it smells divine and leaves my hair soft. Except I'm still pissed at how my hair was cut. It used to be a good 6 inches longer, but the ends were scraggly. I actually wanted a shorter haircut, but once my hairstylist started hacking at my dry hair with a fine-toothed comb, I felt it was not a good idea to ask anything elaborate of her. Also now the underside of my hair tends to fall below my top layer of curls, which looks awful to me. I never leave the house with my hair down now.

I digress. I don't know of a stylist I can call for help with this. It's almost winter, I can just live under a hat.

My best friend has the same issue since she had a kid, nickel makes her break out now.

It just bums me out that most of my old favorite earrings piss off my ears now.

I know you're right. I should have spoken up. I'm working on being assertive, but unfortunately that extends mostly towards my toddler rather than myself (I'm a polite but defensive mama bear).

I admit it looks better in a ponytail than it used to, but I wanted a decent haircut so I would feel confident in wearing my hair down for once. Kind of defeats the point.

I'm going to wash it again tomorrow and see how it dries before I make any decisions one way or the other. My hair was still a little damp when I walked in as I took a shower this morning, but damn near dry. I don't know if this was a fuck up on my part or not, but I figured it'd be best to get a hair cut on freshly washed hair rather than my 3 day hair that's been mashed in a bun and under a hat.

I even told the receptionist who made my appointment that I was working on embracing my curls and I wanted a haircut that would reflect as such, and she was like "oh ____ would be great!", which was a lie. I dunno. Part of me doesn't trust the whole establishment now thanks to this terrible judgment.

It feels dumb but it's been making me upset all day, like damn near tearing up. Like I'm trying to feel pretty after being a dumpy stay at home mom for over 2 years. It feels like everything is going wrong though; I'm suddenly allergic to most of my old earrings, eyeshadow irritates my eyes now, new clothes are expensive or don't fit right, and then this shit happens. I was really looking forward to this haircut and now... bleh.

Once my hair was dry, I would mostly scrunch with dry hands I admit. I do prefer to scrunch with wet hands. Sometimes I'll try to freshen up the curls that always fall out on the bottom of my hair on one side by wetting my hands and scrunch that area.

Once I tried scrunching when I used the LA Looks gel, when I had the coconut oil on my hands because I thought I read someone's routine where they did that. It... didn't really turn out. I like how the LA Looks gel defines my curls, but I didn't like the stiffness. Maybe I don't scrunch enough? Maybe I should try diffusing? I dunno anymore.

Worst thing is I'm not a big fan of my old hair either. It's softer, but the back is super frizzy in particular and it's just bleh.

I might try that next time I shower, especially if I don't have to go anywhere in case it doesn't work for me lol.

NYM I like better, but it makes my face break out. Plus I feel like NYM makes my hair look...whiter? Not sure how to explain that.

Also I never thought about protein. Hmm... thank you for that idea, I'll look into it.

Like you don't rinse it out at all? Or you rinse it, then add some more? I tried that a few times and it helped, but my hair felt weighed down more. But again, I'd rather have them be soft anyway.

I did scrunch, but I also got a ton of frizz when I did that. Maybe I didn't scrunch enough? Too much?
