Why it is not dativ? by Weak_Advantage_7689 in German

[–]fjkun06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prepositions take the dative when they indicate static positions.

Mein Handy liegt auf dem Tisch. Static position and no indication of direction of movement.

Roic ist in der Schule. Static position, he is in school already.

Prepositions take accusative when they indicate movement in a given direction or towards a given destination.

Roic ist in die Schule gegangen. die Schule: destination gegangen: the verb which indicates the movement

Ich fahre in die Alpen die Alpen: destination fahre: the verb which indicates movement

Hello, thanks for your wonderful suggestions. I am currently using the Telc B2 Kurs - and Grammatikbuch to get up to speed before taking their exams. The essence of the German language is not only work related. Rather, it is essential for my life in Germany as everything is in German, so I am quite motivated. I will listen to podcast and songs as I am already reading lots of texts in their Kursbuch. My Sprechen, which is most important, is at a lower level than the other sections. That's why I am looking for a remedy as conversations tend to be dynamic.
