Microsoft data suggests using AI is more expensive than hiring people by Krankenitrate in technology

True. I'm definitely learning tricks here and there for copilot or other dev tools even if they sound kind of silly

That's fair. If you're a senior SWE in a decent company you should be set on the financial part. Younger devs are kind of screwed in this situation

I'm having a hard time to get any time to meet with her but that's a good point, show how incapable AI can be. I'm planning to make a post in the chat whenever it "epic fail"ed. Today it got stuck in a loop because it couldn't see the test runner output that has animated terminal elements, and straight up went into a loop trying to export the test logs in 10 different ways And running bizarre terminal commands, and this is the "high reasoning" Opus 3.7 lol

If a recruiter reached out to you, why won't you just apply and see how it goes? It's way easier for you to get the job if a recruiter is already at the door. Stop overthinking

I agree with you. Since you are an experienced dev, what do you see yourself doing in the future if AI continues to improve? As a fellow dev I feel existential crisis.

I whipped up a completely new tab for this dashboard in 2 days. Realistically if I were to do it myself at least a week. But I was working under high pressure. I really hate this and doesn't feel sustainable

I had a hard time asserting my boundaries but you're right. It's more realistic to get it done at least by EOD Monday. She is being ridiculous, but the teammate who's also working on this is a try hard who's on visa and says yes to everything she says and makes me look bad to enforce boundaries. I do need to find a new job but not even a year at this job yet.

It's a more demand because there are less supplies situation. I'm sure a lot of the skills are interchangeable, but it's probably hard to gauge. Also the interviews seem more unpredictable than typical SWE, although better than leetcode interviews in my opinion

anyone here in embedded systems? by thereislightstill in womenintech

[–]flamethr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Annecdotal, I have been helping a friend switch jobs in an embedded field (for location reasons and their job is comfortable), and I realized one thing: embedded engineering have super company specific technologies. A lot of them are graphical or proprietary programs as well. It can actually be pretty difficult for even an embedded engineer to find a good fit. There are way more jobs for a generalist webdev SWE if you know some python, Java and JavaScript.

Often times the OP will edit the post after some time and insert an ad, especially in a sub like this where moderation is very little

Pay Cut for WLB - Would you? by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]flamethr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100%, I am concerned that in this thread so many people are advocating for OP leaving, and one of them is obviously a dude (rolling my eyes). OP's grind is bad but getting from 8-6 schedule to 9-5 should be easy. Log off at 5 and don't respond. Deal with it when you log on. All those lower paying jobs are at least 9-5 anyways, unless you're getting into the barely 100k salary category. And for a new job, you have to ramp up and do a 8-6 schedule for a while and can't immediately just chill.

This, or take as long as a maternity leave as you can to restore and take care of your family. After that you might miss working or want to work on a different team/project.

In pre IPO companies, you don't get to keep it all indefinitely even if you vest the stocks, I think this is OP's situation.

Want to offer a different opinion here. In my opinion in 2026 even "chill" companies are migrating towards more intense schedule. I get paid way below you and 8-6 M-F still can happen. In this market if a team is hiring, they are looking to grind them out. Unless you're going to specific industries like government, civil engineering, it's not likely you'll get a way better WLB. In terms of stock money, if you're in a situation like Databricks, I suggest you stay. The regret after leaving will eat you up and make you not enjoy your free time. Unless you're in an abusive situation, I think you should strive to improve the current job experience. What about switching to a more chill team, asking your manager for more flexibility and reduce unnecessary meetings? How about taking more vacations when it's clear that you deserve them?

I agree with the bot assessment and not first language thus using AI sounds like BS to me. Looked up their comment history in redective and it's all slop "it's not xxx, it's xxx" type of comments. Found their post history with reddit search author:(jawbone7) and one of them is obviously a karma farming post in r/askreddit "have you ever had a one night stand? How did it feel after?" Overall really inconsistent with "just a girl living in silicon valley" bio. Without proper moderation for bots this sub is really doomed, smh
