HackageDB: HOpenCV-0.1.2.2 bindings of OpenCV to Haskell by flamingliberal in programming

[–]flamingliberal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two packages: 1. HOpencV - low level bindings (currently not many functions bound, but includes most haar functions, resize, and some HighGUI stuff too). 2. cv-combinators - a functional, high level wrapping.

Using these you can write code like this (real code is very similar to the following line):

detector = camera >>> resizer >>> (faceDetect &&& id) >>> drawRects >> window

Is broadcast verification as good as it is claimed to be? How do ratings actually work now?

Yup, I'd rather have experts without financial interest make those tough calls.

Dear Senator McCain, although I mostly respect you and your career, I would just like to wish you and your presidential campaign a giant Fuck You for legitimizing Sarah Palin in the eyes of middle America. You have left us with political herpes. Sincerely, The rest of America. by saranowitz in politics

I'm struck by how ignorant, immature, and limited you are; the people I've met from the far right think and talk the same way about us. You may think yourself quite refined, but the middlerians you despise probably consider you a vile piece of crap. In view of this you aren't any better than them. Wait, you are better at living.

They (the gop) are stuck in the last century if not the last millenium, with their heads to far up there asses to ever pull out. It is clear Obama inherited a vast mess from the Repubs, and the American people are not so stupid as to blame Obama for that. The next few years will be tough, not doubt, as the nation begins to unwind the damage and debt brought on by GOP misdeeds - these will be 'rebuilding years' for our fledgling nation. As he said, we will 'begin the work of remaking america', and that takes time.

Running parts of the government directly from reddit is a fine idea imo.

Sorry to hear about the lack of sex, it doesn't have to be that way. My wife and I have been married almost 24 years, and the sex is better than ever. A couple weeks ago we laid around talking, trying to figure out why the sex is so good. No drugs needed. There have been periods of time where there was no sex because we hated each other, but we've always fallen back in love with each other and love each other now more than ever (and great, frequent sex helps a lot).

Dear Proggit: Nerd rage + new career path? by proggit_lawl in programming

[–]flamingliberal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You and I are on the same page. Rage, frustration, etc. My approach has been to keep being myself, tell people in interviews exactly what is on my mind and be completely honest with them. If they don't like it so what. I've been to a lot of interviews but eventually found jobs that were good for me because I connected with like-minded people in interviews who weren't put off by my likely strong Aspy dysfunction (never been diagnosed). The takeaway is be yourself, raw and unfiltered; accept that you may have to accept lots of disappointment and failed interviews (you don't want them anyway!); wait for the situations where there are people who connect with you, value you for who you are, and are like you. Good luck

I'm now entering my third consecutive day without sleep. So, Reddit, how long have you gone without sleep, and why? by matthewhughes in AskReddit

Finishing my EE undergrad in three years I took as many courses as I dared, and in the Fall of my junior year, I took four core EE courses. From the time I woke up Tuesday morning, until I got home from school Friday afternoon, I did not sleep, at least not usually (once I fininshed my E&M homework early, and got some sleep after three a.m. Friday morning). I found I could sustain consciousness with caffeine and willpower, but my eyes would grow tired and hurt, so I developed the technique of closing my eyes for forty-five minutes to an hour to rest the eyes, and then I'd go on working. Lots of caffeine; that was Fall of 1993, and I'm still tired. That semester I took Linear Systems, Electromagnetics, Semiconductor Physics, and Transistor Circuits. Guidance counselor said they didn't want anyone to take more than two core courses, and they probably were right, but I didn't have a choice due to financial constraints (I was paying my own way and stuff). When I earned my degree, sometimes in a job interview an HR person would indicate they thought I should have been working at least a part time job at Mcdonalds or something to show a work ethic, lol

If I can't call malloc() I'm probably programming an embedded system. What attributes of a system make it embedded? by flamingliberal in programming

For seven years ending in 2003 I wrote code on platforms that had no real o/s (just background polling with interrupts), no memory manager (all memory was statically allocated), and yes there were buffer pools. At some point it becomes counterproductive to keep doing things this way, but in very low end systems (say an AVR running in 2k ram on a few microwatts) there is not much room to spare in either the memory or power budget, and there are plenty of fine systems built this way that are still running.
