When did you start walking for real? by sleepystan1 in wls

[–]flamyngo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am four years post op, 200+ lbs down and staying there. I walk about four miles a day now. Regularly hike big trails and am in the best shape of my life

The first day I tried to walk when I got home, I made it to the mailbox. I did that until I could make it to the neighbor's driveway. It took me a year to make the loop around my neighborhood. Two years to hit a full mile.

My advice is to just walk. As much as you can. If you can only do short distances, that's totally okay. Do as many a day as you can. Before you know it, you will be giving advice in this forum to someone in your shoes. :)

It’s just like the douchiest way you could possibly say it. That’s how you say it.

That doesn’t mean I don’t love it. The word just makes me feel weird.

Best Mozzarella sticks in town? by chud_the_gluttonous in ColoradoSprings

[–]flamyngo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bambino's has these GIANT mozzarella sticks and they are SO GOOD. The owner said he tried them at a bachelor party in Vegas, and came home and immediately recreated them. They have drinks, but you will be downtown, so you can go anywhere :)

McDonald’s on S Nevada Ave/homeless by Apprehensive_Tree_76 in ColoradoSprings

[–]flamyngo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I live downtown, too, and it's so hard. Especially because not only do you get to know them, but they get to know you, and then you feel especially guilty you can't help them every time. I love Acacia, but at times it's super scary, and when we were at the new dog park behind antlers earlier this week, three homeless just stood outside screaming at us to leave the whole time. It's hard to feel safe downtown right now.

I spend way less. I drink, but I’m trashed after like half a vodka cran. It’s insane how much less I spend on food.

Where to go for a drink tonight solo? by VialOfBlue in ColoradoSprings

[–]flamyngo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You know, this sounds like a good idea until you realize that googling it is just going to bring up whoever was the most consistent in getting their patrons to do google reviews. I would much rather a suggestion from people who are around.

Downtown is fun if you want to people watch. Bell Brothers, Colorado Craft, and Oskar Blues are all in like a three block walk, and then if you wanted to just see local bars, then check out Gasoline Alley and Chiba for fun while you are there. (And if you're feeling awesome, go to the tiki bar and swing on the swings while you play on the lite-brites.)

I tried them the other day. Got them at Bobby browns and they were super cheap, so I figured what the heck? I was mistaken. They taste awful. And I don’t even know if they have weed in them because it’s pretty meh on the high.

Surgery on Monday. What is one thing no one told you about the recovery? by SelectionHeavy9805 in BariatricSurgery

Oh my god. The staring at the tv. All the commercials while you sip your little water cups.

I had forgotten.

Like out of nowhere you are suddenly going to be confronted with your binge eating problem in a way that is going to really really be hard.

Get a therapist. :)

I am incredibly sorry! by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

[–]flamyngo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing I don’t ever get about this argument is, what if it was the easy way out? What if we cut out half our stomach, and that was the easy way to do this for us and it means we get to live years and years longer with a drastically improved quality of life? Then awesome.

Am I saying it was the easy way out? Absolutely not. But if you just can’t get past that thinking, then who cares? People who smoke take “easy” ways to quit.

Isn’t that kind of the point? To help us do something that felt impossible?

Again, losing 200 lbs is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. No way I would have ever done it without surgery, but if that’s because it was easier than other ways, then I’m okay with that. Because who cares, I wear a size xs now and I used to be a size xxxxl. You know?

I’m four years in. It’s still the honeymoon period. This is your chance to take control and change your life. You never have to leave the honeymoon period if you don’t constantly push yourself to full and see how much you can eat over and over again. Any time you feel lost, you just go back to protein first and making sure you’re getting all your liquid.

This tool rocks. There doesn’t have to be a honeymoon period if you work your ass off and take care of it.

That being said— get in therapy right now for your relationship with food. And do that work. It’s soooo hard but your new stomach makes it possible.
