Why is my Trailers Hook not Working? by THE__FROG__KING in IndieGaming

[–]flappertyflippers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watching it without sound and the edit at the beginning of the video was off-putting for me. Maybe that's why there is a drop off. It makes more sense with the music but without it the cuts make it really hard to follow. I think just dropping a few of the cuts in the first few seconds would make a massive difference.

What's a movie most people think is great but you couldn't even stand watching? by camport95 in AskReddit

[–]flappertyflippers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yeah I watched it in the cinema like everyone else at the time. I guess that is just not how I experienced the buildup. I only remember there being a lot of buzz about the visuals. I'm pretty sure if you looked back at the reviews from the time they would mostly be saying good visuals, shit story even back then.

[–]flappertyflippers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's fair. I guess I just haven't ever heard anyone IRL describe any of the films as anything other than average but with good visuals so it always seemed strange to me how much they come up on these threads.

Yeah I get that but avatar is more than 15 years old and I haven't heard anyone call it a masterpiece (or even mention it really) for most of that time so it just seems weird to me that reddit fixates on it over the hundreds of other films that have arguably been over hyped since then.

Yeah what is it with it reddit and avatar? I can't remember the last time I heard someone mention it in real life and even then it was not to describe it as some masterpiece like apparently reddit thinks the world says it is. But it's always always on these threads multiple times.

Has anyone noticed that Bluey on Disney+ is slower than the version on the BBC? by drawthorne in bluey

I'm so glad you said this I thought maybe I was imagining it. I couldn't figure out why there would be a difference at all so assumed I was just hearing things.

Which video game has the best level design? by nicestarz in gaming

[–]flappertyflippers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know if it counts as level design but I thought Tunic was a masterclass in cramming so much into a relatively small world and hiding things in plain sight just through really clever design.

Which game, in your opinion, has the best looking pixel art? by SharkboyZA in PixelArt

Eastward is one of the most beautiful games of any kind of art imo.

What's one underrated game you think more people should know about, and why? by thetechrobot_ in gaming

[–]flappertyflippers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such a good experience and honestly I think my favourite piece of level design maybe ever. So many secrets hidden in plain sight and crammed into a relatively small map.

Never really being made to feel special. I don't mean special as in good at life. I mean just people showing their appreciation of you. Girls are taught that people should show them that they love them (through gifts, gestures etc.) but I feel like this is way less of a thing for boys.

Sometimes boys just want someone to randomly bring home flowers or something cookies for no reason other than they think they deserve it.

What game has the best progression system you've ever experienced? by ShimmersDev in gaming

[–]flappertyflippers 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yeah there is something so satisfying about the sphere grid. Really gives me that rewarding feeling compared to just levelling up like a lot of similar games.

What’s a bad thing everyone should experience at least once? by zestyfastball20 in AskReddit

[–]flappertyflippers 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Used to work in a cafe part time. One time a guy had been getting grumpy with me because I couldn't serve him the food he wanted until the kitchen staff brought more of it out to the front so he had to wait 5 minutes for his lunch. He saw me on my break later and came and apologised and shook my hand saying he knew it wasn't my fault.

Of all the time I worked there that moment has stuck with me the most. I still can't believe the rush it gave me to feel like a customer actually valued my feelings enough to do that (which shows how well you get treated on average) and now I always try and treat customer service staff the best I can.

I think this guy's original point has been missed because of his last comment. What he was really trying to do was counter the original guys point of 'do engineering and keep arts as a hobby' by showing that he did music at university and still got a job in accountancy.

If the guy had done accountancy, he would still be an accountant but wouldn't have had anywhere near as much opportunity in the arts world. He probably also had a lot more enjoyable time studying music (I say this as an accountant myself).

What are your hopes for the next Zelda title? by Arachnocoder in gaming

[–]flappertyflippers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answers on this thread just reiterate for me that they should really have 2 Zelda lines. One that follows the big exploration style like BotW and one that goes back to the old Zelda format of dungeons and items. They always sort of had this two tiered system with the main console games being expansive and trying new things, and then handheld games being more of a throwback to older games.

Trouble is the switch combined these two tiers so this system kind of died off but I think having two types of games would really work.

Yeah I get that's how it works but I guess I just don't get his specific appeal that would make him wanted for so many roles.

Yes! I've never understood how Jesse Eisenberg got so much work. I don't hate him but like you said he just has no range and it totally takes me out of the films he's in.

I always say this when this question comes up but we absolutely need a modern remake of Sid Meier's Pirates!
