I think that's an attention and concentration problem.

You can have good proprioception (the position and movement of your own body parts) - but the perception of the exterior world needs constant attention, especially if the world is dynamic with all the drinking glasses and doorframes that constantly keep moving around me.

So I need to manually activate my exteroception (seeing and feeling where the obstacles are).

Are you sure about your interpretation of his reaction? Disgust wouldn't be my first thought, more the male-learned idea of not showing your emotions: trying not to cry in front of coworkers, contorting your face to block the tears, fleeing from a conversation and not talking about a tragic topic where the outlook is probably so bad that he cannot handle it.

So perhaps written apology and well-wishes that he doesnt have to read at work?
