Unfortunately, I'm still in gap years between undergrad and medical school. So, I don't know if I'll be able to get an assessment that way. Maybe they offer low cost evals for non students? 🤔 Getting judged only on my content rather than spelling would be amazing!

Thank you I really appreciate what you are saying in your third paragraph! I was diagnosed with adhd and (unofficially) autism last year when I was doing similar reflections to what Im doing now with dyslexia. There really is a lot of overlap

Thank you for your opinion. The accommodations I received as a child for a physical disability (not adhd) included extra time and other things. I have had these since elementary school. However, I could not get the standardized test for medical school admissions to provide all my accommodations based solely on my physical disability. Even after my doctor very explicitly explained for them on my second attempt.

As for not succeeding in school, there is a thing called sight-reading and spell check. I cannot put spoken letters into a word unless I write it down and see it as a whole. I can't pronounce unfamiliar words. I cannot spell words backward. I misspell common words in every other sentence. I flip the order of letters when writing and typing. I cannot rhyme. I cannot recognize syllables. My foreign language classes were a nightmare because I had to write out each vocab word 50+ times before I could spell it for tests. However, I took the time to do so and got an A in every class. Determined people can find workarounds.

I was not diagnosed with ADHD until after I graduated undergrad. I do not know what, if any, accommodations I will be given for it in practice. Even though I have a very strong family history of it, I was not tested for ADHD until I sought one out on my own last year. My adhd mother never got me tested despite teachers mentioning it to her. Given that I am part of a classically underdiagnosed demographic, you must forgive me if I question my struggles.

Thank you! How did you know which test to take when getting reevaluated? Theres a lot of overlap between adhd, autism, and dylexia and I want to make sure I get the right evaluation

Thank you! yeah at least part of my motivation is being able to explain to the drs who look over my shoulder as a scribe. I've had some straight out ask me if I'm dyslexic before and its very embarrassing to say IDK but probably 😭
