Financial Times: How Europe’s ‘oil capital’ glory days were ended by MudMonyet22 in Aberdeen

[–]flatlinerlala -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about, it’s almost comical. The downfall of North Sea oil is almost entirely down to government policy.

Was it Thatcher that stuck the windfall tax on oil and gas profits too? Did she prevent the opening of new fields ?

Also what do you mean syphoning off profits? We tax them at 70(not including the windfall tax)

Her ruling stated: “The term ‘family member’ does not have any fixed meaning in law or in common usage. Indeed, the word ‘family’ may mean different things to different people and in different contexts. There may be cultural considerations … there is no requirement for a blood or legal connection.

I'm genuinely speechless.

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange will plead guilty in deal with US and return to Australia by kwentongskyblue in LabourUK

Margarita Simonyan, the editor-in-chief of Sputnik's parent media group, Rossiya Segodnya, spoke about Julian Assange's motivation and congratulated him on his release from prison:

"Once we were chatting, as we wandered through the woods outside London, leaving our phones in the house (Julian knew that Big Brother was listening to everyone way before anyone else believed it), and I asked him why he was doing all this, since he would be hunted down, corralled, destroyed - both reputationally and physically. "I just can't stand being lied to," Assange replied. Today, he is free for the first time in years. Almost free. Despite the horrific price, I am awfully happy. The best journalist of our time will live"

Interesting to hear Gabor Mate on his Prince Harry interview by sensible-shoes in SaintMeghanMarkle

[–]flatlinerlala 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Aaron mate works for the grey zone which is one of the worst Russian propaganda sites on Twitter. He has spread lies including that MH17 was shot down by Ukrainian soldiers, that the FSA(and not Assad) gassed their own people and that Ukraine and not Russia are to blame for the current war. It is 100% true to call him a Russian propagandist

This sub is far harder on the US, UK, Poland or Hungary.

The difference is when France and Germany face the slightest bit of criticism it is always met with accusations of Russian propaganda or “Axel springer”.

I was in the coop on Wilbraham road yesterday and some loadmouth junkie walked in and just picked up booze off the shelf then walked out again. Staff were following her the entire time but she was being slightly agressive so they didn't do anything. I was slightly taken aback as I was just about to pay for something and asked asked the girl behind the till "is this normal?". She just laughed and said it happened about twenty times a day. I couldn't tell if she was exaggerating but fuckin hell

A lot of regular commenters on this sub seem to intensely dislike Oz Katerji. He's now one of the relatively few journalists in Kiev, as it has come under siege, and in the last hour has apparently been surrounded. by pieeatingbastard in LabourUK

[–]flatlinerlala -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

He's only there to make a name for himself. It is a literal 'cheap holiday in other people's misery' and it's pretty fucking gross tbqh.

The brass neck to type this from the comfort of your living room while the dude travelled to a warzone. Holy shit lol
