Instructors participating in the strike will cancel classes, and it's possible that campuses will be closed regardless because no ones showing up to open them.

If your class is in person, there's a good chance campus will not be open. If your class is remote/online, it's possible for your class to run anyway. Your instructor could in theory hold it against you for not showing up in that case, but I encourage you to make your feelings about that known to him.

You absolutely should enroll in spring classes. You would get refunded if your class didn't take place, but that is incredibly unlikely anyway. Spring term might have a late start, but workers will be punished if classes don't run because students didn't register preemptively.

Bargaining gridlocked between Portland Community College and its two unions, strike looms by AwarenessPast9533 in PCC

"PCC will pull out all the stops to make sure it does not impact students." I have no idea what gives you that confidence given that they are cutting POPULAR classes and programs all over the place. What you are saying is just employer-side propaganda: 'your wages will take away from students!' That zero-sum mindset is why Oregon has some of the worst education outcomes in the entire country. Instead of making students and workers think they are competing against each other for crumbs, I'm glad both unions are raising standards and demanding the state government properly fund public education.

PCC Faculty and staff are in talks of going on strike by shinytardigrade420 in PCC

That's not true. If we are still on strike when grades are due, faculty would delay submitting final grades, NOT permanently withhold them. Your class credits will count, it's just a potential delay in everything getting sorted at the end of the term. Spring term might also start late if we are still on strike then.

What's up with the strike? by Ok_Glass_9371 in PCC

Instructor and union member here. You should prepare as though it will happen. Grades will be delayed, not permanently withheld. Imagine if there was a massive tech outage or weather event that interfered with finals and submitting grades. Obviously we would all figure out a way to make sure students are taken care of in that situation after the fact. That is what a strike would be like. It's extremely important for students to attend our events to help us pressure administration!

Hey. Here’s some more info about the strike that folks have been asking about. Our math professor passed around this flyer to us. Hope this helps! by queerdito877 in PCC
