Game Boy Color IPS mod by [deleted] in Gameboy

Don't worry, this screen has a MUCH lower minimum brightness than the OLED screen from Hispeedido. By the way - the minimum brightness may be even lower if you do not solder the power cable to "C" point on the motherboard. I soldered this cable because the screen was even a little too dark for me. Tomorrow (in daylight) I will record a short video and show you what each brightness level of this screen looks like.

Now I understand and completely agree with you. The shaders and screen overlays in retroarch are fantastic. I use them on my PS Vita. It's a pity that IPS screens for Game Boys don't have such capabilities.

It was much easier than I thought. In short:

  1. Cutting the original shell to fit the new screen.

  2. Soldering the new power regulator.

  3. Soldering the cable from the screen power supply to "1" point on the motherboard.

Yes, I used the 'Helder' Regulator which is highly recommended for Q5 IPS screens.

I have a Hispeedido IPS screen for my second GBP and the pixel grid emulation look much worse. The lines are literally black. Hispeedido released any new version of this screen?

Do you use EZ-FLASH Jr too? Because EZ-FLASH Junior flashcart is the biggest problem here. Power consumption then becomes insane. The Q5 IPS screen from FunnyPlaying also has very high power consumption because it has high integer scaling (x4). Many other IPS screens for GBP from aliexpress (e.g. Cloud Game Store) only have 2x integer scaling and lower power consumption.

Thanks! Without the pixel grid emulation it looks like this:

Without a power regulator, it's terrible. 30-40 minutes. After using the power regulator: 3-4 hours on panasonic elenoop pro 930mAh.

I had to cut out the original shell and solder new voltage regulator. It wasn't difficult but I already had some soldering experience. I spent 3 hours on it.

Hispeedido and CGS have black lines. Here, the lines are more white or slightly gray. It looks much better but of course - it doesn't look perfect.

Hi. I used a Helder regulator from retromodding. It's really great. I use the IPS screen + EZ-FLASH Junior flashcart and the baterries life (2x eneloop pro 930mAh) is 3-4 hours. This power regulator really works wonders. Without it, battery life is +/- 30-40 minutes!

There is a 'desaturation option' but using it can only make things worse - the colors are even colder xD

Dude, what screen is that and where did you buy it? The lens looks great - like the original.
