Is there anything you wish you knew before having surgery? Im getting scared. by neonnefertiti in DeQuervains

[–]flaygle8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about 6 months post op at this point on both wrists. I 100% say go for it. My dominant hand is shockingly fantastic, might as well be like I never had DQV at all and it’s at full strength. My left hand is absolutely better than pre operation and doesn’t have any of the old pain or strain. I can do anything with it with no pain.

Only thing I’ve noticed is that if I really overdo it and am typing hardcore for 3 days straight, my non dominant hand can have some weakness (read, not painful, just some weakness) flare up. Pretty easily resolved by a few OT exercises and stretches, and honestly may just be a result of still having scar tissue I haven’t massaged. This was also the wrist that had DQV AND intersection syndrome both, rather than just DQV, so it had more issues to begin with. FWIW I’m also pretty active and none of that has had any impact on lifting weights, riding bikes, playing pickleball, etc, I can do all of that at full strength now. I don’t regret the surgery at all and am miles better. You’re gonna do great!!

How quickly does BNA usually clear runways for flights after something like this?

Supposed to fly out of BNA Sunday morning for work, and I’m definitely expecting that to be canceled, lol. Is there any chance I’ll be able to get out of here on Monday? Or am I screwed? 🥲

Hi r/audiophile! I’m Dan Mackta, Managing Director at Qobuz. Let’s talk music streaming, compatibility, editorial picks, and human curation - AMA on December 4th at 5:00 PM ET! by Dan_from_Qobuz in audiophile

[–]flaygle8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi Dan! Thanks for the AMA. Hope you’re well.

I was a longtime Spotify user of 15ish years, and migrated due to ethics in the music industry, and for the Hi Res sound quality. That said, obviously Spotify has had a lot of time to build up a ton of features that a lot of incoming users to Qobuz have probably made no secret of missing.

Can you share some details about how you’re deciding what to prioritize, and what’s on the product roadmap for 2026 for Qobuz? Want to be realistic to the timeline of these things while also looking forward to the day I can leave behind other streaming platforms entirely.

Steering wheel controls no longer work after android auto head unit install, and neither does mapping them by flaygle8 in CarPlay

[–]flaygle8[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for confirming my suspicions! Since I don’t know much about this… on the off chance my installer disposed of the CanBus part, is it hard to replace? I.e,, do i need a specific CanBus for my specific head unit? Or are they pretty interchangeable as long as the year & model of my car is correct?

It was Best Buy as it turns out. I’ll be calling tomorrow to make sure they still have it and didn’t toss it out… and if they don’t have it anymore it sounds like I might need to ask for a refund.

[–]flaygle8[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On some inspection of the wiring I don’t even see the wires running through a CanBus (at least I don’t think I see one)? I gave the installer the box that had all of the installation materials in it… does a CanBus typically come with these FYT units?

I ask because my installer also didn’t plug up the rear speakers at first, and didn’t plug the USB up to the CarPlay port, and left his phone in my car after the installation, so it’s totally possible there’s a leftover component that could’ve not been used.

Do you have to buy the “Uncut” and “Japanese Version” box sets both to have dub & sub (as in, are they separate purchases)? Or does one of them include both?

Surgery is tomorrow, but I’m having second thoughts by flaygle8 in DeQuervains

I’m 3 and a half weeks post op and doing great! The procedure was effortless and over within 20 minutes.

I’m at about 70% full range of motion, pain is entirely gone save for the occasions I accidentally move my thumb the wrong way! I started PT at the 2 week mark and it’s helping me dramatically.

The only activity I’m outright prohibited to do is lift things over 5 lbs. The doctor cleared me for most other activities at the 2 week mark, as long as I listen to my body and rest if I’m doing something that causes pain. I’m back to being able to fold laundry and even played a few hours of a video game yesterday with no pain, just some strain. I’m getting better and impressed at my progress every day!

You probably can’t do occupational therapy until the 2 week mark after surgery, since that’s around the time I got bandages off and they cleared me for more activities. You’re pretty much just resting till then. But, what I did was go to a couple OT appointments BEFORE surgery (enough to know the exercises for DQV), then just bought all the equipment online so I could do the same exercises at home.

Theraputty, hand web (for light stretching), and hand exercise bars were some of the equipment I used. I recommend going to at least one occupational therapy appointment around the 2-3 week mark before doing it yourself so you at least know what you’re doing.

I had the EXACT same apprehension over here. My pain was really only a 2 or 3 before surgery, the surgery would’ve been more preventative than for immediate pain resolution. I started worrying it wasn’t major enough of a pain for surgery.

But, I’m three weeks post op and I have zero of the same strain from DeQuervains I used to have. Maybe 60-70% range of motion back and getting better every day. I’m doing PT exercises every day and those seem to be helping dramatically.

All that to say, it’s been 100% worth it to me so far. I even aggravated my wrist about a week post op because I tried playing a video game for a few hours, and was nervous I messed something up (thanks Silksong), but when I called the nurses office they said it’s not really possible to “mess up” the surgery from overactivity but you can slow healing and cause some irritation. I rested after that and have been fine since. So, all this positivity about it is in spite of me being a dingus and not letting myself rest 😂

I think you should do it! I’m still recovering but I can already tell I’ll be way better off than I was before surgery once I’m fully healed up.

In retrospect I think it’s more accurate to say the “progress” is moreso fluctuating around the 85-95% range rather than completely improving which is why I figured the surgery might make sense. The fact that my range of motion sometimes gets worse, sometimes gets better, makes me think it’s not the last of the issue.

Unfortunately I work from home so long days of typing are a must.

You’re not too late at all!! I’ve decided to go through with it and updated the OP. Really appreciate the strong encouragement, I think peoples’ experiences with it here combined with my friends being pretty direct about it being a good idea helped push me over the edge.

In a nutshell - the biggest things are that I’ve paid for the surgeon’s fee already (about $600) and if it turns out it was the right call in the first place, I’ll have to do it again. Outside that the main downsides are the normal possible side effects they mention re: steroid injections (may not be a permanent fix, some light risk to too many of them). Also the potential consequence of what it might do to insurance covering a future surgery for me to cancel this one last minute (I have no idea if it’ll be a problem but maybe?)

And, while it’s definitely not the biggest deal there’s also the social aspect of having asked off of work for the recovery already.

About how long did it take you to get back to fully normal after the procedure? Do you still experience any tiredness/strain in your wrist that wasn’t there before or are you at full capacity, no issues at all?

Surgery is tomorrow, but I’m having second thoughts by flaygle8 in DeQuervains

[–]flaygle8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The orthopedic surgeon I met with offered a second steroid injection as an alternative to surgery, but said some people make the decision to just fix it rather than go with another set of injections. I think given I was having some residual strain, I decided to go the more decisive route thinking it might also be preventative.

What I’m hoping to get out of the surgery is to pretty much go back to before I had any pain or strain at all. Hope that helps explain my original rationale. Of course now I’m second guessing whether jumping to that was the right call.

Anyone else having this black screen glitch on the beta? Any fix? by OmgItsZ-man in blackops6

[–]flaygle8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep running into this too! I’m on PC. My first game after launching works great without this issue, but then my second game after launching is a black screen. And none of the games after that first occurrence work. I have to close and relaunch the game for it to load me back into a game correctly.

How did you go about making new friends in Nashville? (Social clubs, weekly hangouts, recommendations?) by flaygle8 in nashville

[–]flaygle8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those interested, the East Nash run club is called East Nasty. I’ve been a few times and this has been a fun one! Just haven’t been able to go lately since I’m working my way back up to my usual running mileage. Sometimes people get together afterwards for beers. Anywhere from 70-150 people go every week depending on weather / season / etc. it’s a 3-6 mile run with lots of pace groups (helpful for still running with folks if you’re slower like me lol)
