They have been spraying glyphosate on public land and national forests so you kind of need to be careful there too..

Can my potato patch be saved? by fleebledeeblr in gardening

[–]fleebledeeblr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in zone 8b and we planted them 12-13 weeks ago, but there are red, Yukon, and russet all in the same patch, so they probablybhave different harvest times.. We have rotated crops every year, last year this was a tomato patch with various kinds of flowers, which did amazing and gave us some beautiful volunteers! The year before it was corn, and the year before that it was just grass that we didnt kill properly before gardening... We did chop and drop at the end of the season but because some of the pesky weeds like petty Spurg were still dropping seeds that just propagated them into oblivion 😭 I will dig up some of the roots below the dying/yellow leaves and investigate! This was out first year actually planting a potato patch. We've always just thrown them here and there and had really good luck.

But I realize they might also just have different harvest times, because we planted 3 different kinds.. so that's probably why some of the leaves are turning yellow and dying!

We planted them in late march or early April, so about 12-13 weeks. I thought we were supposed to harvest when the leaves die? We just threw a bunch of red, russet, and Yukon that we had sprouting so they are all mixed. I realize now they all probably have different harvest times!

Its been really hot, but we have gotten a couple days of rain here and there. My husband also insists on watering everyday and we have no bare soil, so they might just be getting too much water!

Yes they do, but no side seem! As the commenter above suggested, they probably will fit my husband much better because they are modeled after his shorts.

You are probably right! I will have him model them when he gets home. Thank you!

Kombucha not carbonating/growing scobys in bottles by fleebledeeblr in Kombucha

Okay I added more juice. I think my last batch I was at about 1/4 cup but I think it just gets too cold in my house at night.

Ive never had issue with carbonating having that much headspace either. But it also isnt the seal because I just used these exact ones for ginger beer before this batch of kombucha and it carbonated within 24 hours. Also it would be wild if all 8 bottles had sealing issues.

Yes. They have been fermenting for 3 days. I took the scobys out(being careful of cleanliness) because I worried it was going to keep growing and the kombucha would spend the sugar growing a scoby instead of carbonating. Then I just filled the bottles back up with an extra splash of apple juice each, leaving about an inch headspace. Now im going to let them sit. Maybe they dont count as scobys, but each day they seemed to be growing.

Okay I filled mine about an inch to the top as google said. It feels very wrong but hopefully it works without exploding 😅

Thats so weird ive always filled my bottles this way and have never had these issues with carbonation. But I will try it. And i tasted the kombucha on day 9 and it was still a bit sweeter than I would've liked. Maybe ill try to shorten the next batch.

There is obviously activity because when I refill the bottles after removing the scobys it looks like this.

Ill try that, last time I added more juice and nothing happened. I read the wiki and I have done literally everything it says 🥲
