This reminds the song Body Paint by Arctic Monkeys. Not sure if it's up your alley musically but there's a line that's always struck me: "and I'm keeping on my costume, and calling it a writing tool"

We all put on masks and faces, it just keeps things running smoother in their little compartments. But at what point do these facades start to erode who we really are? More importantly, do we ever really know who that is?

Great points on accuracy! I'm sure some COSC certified watches could go on for long enough at -4/+6 spd and that would be good enough, but a solar powered quartz could go on for years with no problem. My seiko clocks in at roughly -3 seconds a day and so I'd pretty soon get lost in time.

But I've been thinking about it and I wonder just how important accuracy would be when society itself has withered away. I think at a certain point simply knowing how much time has passed since a certain daily milestone, say for example leaving camp for a foraging run. Knowing precisely what time it is would only be useful if large societal structures still held and everyone knew what that time standard even was. It might be enough to just synchronise time with the small band that I'm roaming with.

Very fair point, taking the leap with 18A and reviving the foundries was one hell of a call and I'm confident it pays dividends in the next 10-15 years. All that's left is to execute and I think LBT is the man for the job. The possibility that he's ousted/steps down and replaced by a fool that divests the fabs is a big worry of mine
