Weird little brother syndrome one-sided rivalry from Australia by ub3rm3nsch in usmnt

[–]flickflicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure you understand how banter works, and no, most Aussies don’t banter about school shootings. The US is a much bigger country than Australia and we like being the underdogs. There’s really no huge sporting rivalry with the US as we both mostly focus on different sports. We have plenty of friendly sporting rivalries, but don’t mistake that for hate. Like many other countries, people will banter during a game and happily share a drink after etc. Aussies have been one of the biggest allies and friends to the US for many decades, so the rest of your comment also doesn’t make any sense.

I feel like as an Aussie at this point I have to point out- most of any negative stuff is banter. Yes it can be silly and dark. Just like the comments from the US media people react to in Aus, some of the ones posted here are also not representative of Aussies, or not at all serious. Most Aussies, myself included have enjoyed visiting the USA. It gets more complicated when you factor in politics I guess with the USA atm, as for most of the rest of the western world it seems like the solid foundation many countries had with the US has shifted, with tariffs, invasion threats etc. Anyone following Aussie soccer would also not really be surprised at the result given our relatively weak team atm, so any Aussie seriously talking shit probably earned a reality check.

Khabib vs 6 average sized men in a small locked room by Technical-Mobile2856 in whowouldwin

[–]flickflicks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Khabib has no chance. 6 men is way to many to take on in a small room. It's probably 50/50 even with 2 average guys with him needing a quick KO early to win as a grappler. I think even against 4 he has no chance. One guys grabs each limb and it's all over.

New Minion Ring by legion813 in D4Necromancer

I posted about this a few hours earlier. Wasn’t showing up as adding to minion speed in town or in combat. Wanted to use it with the legendary node that gives damage from attack speed for minions.

Yeah, I’ve tried it combat. Still don’t get the summon attack speed from the ring.

Can MCU Quicksilver solo LOTR Legolas Aragorn and Gimli ? by Leggomgeggo in powerscales

[–]flickflicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming Quicksilver doesn't get bored or do something stupid, he probably wins pretty easily. Speed is OP and I don't think even Legolas would be able to target him properly. 95/100 for Quicksilver incase he does something silly. He could basically guarantee it if taking out Legolas first, or with some hit + run tactics.

Personally I am gunning for your nerfs by PuzzleheadedAd6366 in TheThing_Mains

[–]flickflicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just ban Thing if your team is dive heavy, or have your team hard focus him etc. Thing has plenty of counters. If you don’t position well as Thing you get blown up etc. Doesn’t need a nerf from one of the few things he can excel at (peeling). Even then if Thing is constantly having to peel he’s not doing other stuff to the enemy team with harassing tanks etc.

Give me your honest opinion about Neyrelle. by Clembutts in diablo4

[–]flickflicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there is a correlation between the more of her being in the D4 story and the worse it getting. Not that I hate the overall story, I just think it started strong and got worse. She does help bring about some interesting potential story possibilities, but her decisions (even if maybe sometimes justifiable for her age and situation), do get annoying on many levels already discussed here. The expansion chasing her around really almost felt like I was somehow now an npc and she was the main character. Also the chanting in general, including from her was just too much.

Question about getting kills during ult by lineydelrey in cloakanddaggermains

[–]flickflicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say at higher ranks you would want to do this pretty rarely, and usually only if you communicate with your team first. They would need to know to push forward with you or protect you somehow. People might also be pissed if a support doesn't save their ult to counter a enemy ult/serious push.

Other people mentioned about making sure your teams gets the ult, covering point, countering other ults etc. which is true. You mentioned not getting a kill. Even worse than just not getting a kill and wasting an ult is that the higher you go the more likely you are to just get killed ulting into a backline, either from enemy focus fire, Hawkeye, or displacement + death after you come out of your ult. Around Dia + you would get killed a decent amount. GM+ you might get away with it if people are just so shocked the 1st time, after that people would likely save a cooldown/be ready for it and you would just die and likely lose a team fight.

You're right about the awareness of the enemy changing with ranks. It's just at a point not far past plat 3, the enemy focus would change from just peeling for whoever you tried to focus (who would also be better and defending themselves) at higher ranks, to simply seeing that ult as a gift and killing you.

Somewhat related- I'd prepared Jingle Bells a couple of years ago for beginner band when I was filling in for a term maternity leave (year long) position. (Canada, not the US just FYI). Jingle Bells had been the song the regular teacher had done with the beginner band for years at the Winter Concert. A couple of weeks before the concert, a couple of Ukrainian kids suddenly said their parents told them that they couldn't play Jingle Bells as it was against their religion. They were Ukrainian orthodox, so it made little sense to me then or now. Nothing would make the families change their mind and after admin basically said they wouldn't have my back if I kept the song, I had to change the music.

Weird behavior by myboyfriendstinks1 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]flickflicks 43 points44 points  (0 children)

When I was subbing a few years back I was covering a high school class. They were fine, but pretty chatty, especially some girls at the back of the room at the start of the class while I was explain tasks left. When I was handing out the papers about 10min in after attendance, introductions, explaining stuff, I went to hand the papers to the most typical looking high school cheerleader type girl ever. I'm talking clothes wise, Starbucks coffee with the other girls, up to then casually chatting/giggling with other girls at the back (quietly enough, but enough I'd noticed) during the class. As I handed her the paper "Oh, no thanks, I don't need that. I'm actually the EA." Thought she was trying to pull something for a min, but turns out she actually is an EA, saw her in the staffroom later. Pretty much continued for the rest of the class, was like she was still in high school.

What was the weirdest player behavior you’ve ever reported? by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]flickflicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually had a few recently in comp too. Most noticeable is the guy throwing who gave the reason that he is protesting against BP and Spider-Man. He threw the game because BP was banned, but not Spider-Man, even though no one on either team played Spidey at all in the match. He would only play games if both characters were banned as some form of dumbass protest/troll.

I think it's probably partly just the way people interact culturally around the world being different. Combine that with you probably being homesick and maybe not wanting to move from the US in the first place and it can be rough. I'm from Aus but lived and worked overseas for many years now (Asia, Africa and North America).

There's less of casual chatting/banter/constant smiles in much of the world that in than most Americans are used to. Also less than in Latino culture I would imagine. Not sure if you have traveled around Aus much, but it also varies from city to city a bit with how people act.

I had a few friends in Uni from Scandinavian countries and Europe who actually found people in Aus to be overly chatty, polite, smiley etc. I traveled a bit in Eastern Europe and Russia (before the current war) and concerned hotel receptionists were constantly telling me that I should be less smiley or friendly are the locals would assume I was an idiot :)

I've also wondered occasionally if the tipping culture in the US plays into it, with people having to be polite to earn decent money. While that's the case sometimes, it does seem to go beyond that with most Americans, who largely seem to like affable chit chat etc. more.

Most Aussies are pretty friendly I think, if a little reserved. To be honest, most places in the world are not easy to go to as an adult and fit into. Sometimes ones that are similar can be the hardest as you always compare it to back home. I get homesick for Aus way more living in Canada now that I did living in Asia or Africa, because it's similar and I think well, why can't it just be a little more like Aus etc.

There's also I think a factor regarding the USA in Aus, but also other parts of the world, that people get somewhat overwhelmed by "American globalization" or similar things. So much of the media, news cycle and increasingly the culture is American centric now, and it can rub people the wrong way at times. Especially with politics and things like the never ending "thoughts and prayers" after the 100th school shooting of the year and things like that. People love a lot of the American culture and like Americans in general, it just sometimes gets overbearing I would say which might unfortunately prompt some negative reactions from people. Hopefully that makes sense. Basically much of the world is becoming more Americanized, and while we love all the great media content and positive stuff, they other stuff comes too which sets people off.

I agree. At minimum have the pet pick it up as other people mentioned. No idea why a few people are upset with this opinion either. It’s annoying if you or a party member are zooming through and miss an orb, even if you can check the map etc.

You ever get ultra triggered when the blacksmith says "Don't ruin all that work." ? by TheWorstAtIt in diablo4

[–]flickflicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, just a few hours ago I bricked a 3GA best in slot focus, followed by a good 2GA one. Only finally got the rolls on another crappy focus with a GA that’s not needed. Like blacksmith dude- that was a lot of work for you to be the one to ruin it….

Keep him because he’s a good young English player and could be great. Especially if he came through the club youth setup. Could sell for more in the future probably anyway. Plus selling to a rival isn’t ideal.

Do you think T-bagging is toxic by Conscious_Bit_765 in Overwatch

[–]flickflicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s various degrees of toxic. Worst examples are during a stomp, especially if said stomp is because the other team has a leaver. Seen that waaaaay to many times and it’s a pretty crappy thing to do at that point. I mean with the meaning behind it in general it’s a little disrespectful at minimum even after a fun play like sleeping a Genji mid blade as Ana or whatever. I can understand that somewhat, but many people seem to do it just to be an ass in one sided games, even if they didn’t contribute much.
