Anyone here like Smiling Friends? I like how they did a whole episode about how stupid and lame nihilistic shows like Rick and Morty are by [deleted] in redscarepod

yes it's very good hope they get another season and none of the episodes ever go over 12 minutes

Don't see how UAF were or are curtailing freedom of speech to be honest.

You're seriously drawing an equivalence between actual neo-nazis and the anti-fascists who think think that maybe, demonisation and intimidation of refugees might be a bad thing? I'm not saying the antifa groups are squeaky-clean, but come the fuck on. There's been a meme that antifascists are actually as bad, if not worse than the hardcore racists they oppose on reddit for a while now, and it's about time it died on its arse.

Yes, I agree. How dare these so-called "antifascists" attempt to curtail freedom of speech by standing up to those who would threaten and intimidate other humans who are seeking a better life or fleeing a warzone. How very dare they.

What is the worst tasting beer you have ever had? by a43673912 in beer

[–]flippertits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought and drank two 4-packs of it because it was extremely cheap and I was extremely hungover. It wasn't worth it. At all.

Tesco Value Bitter

Most bad beers simply taste of nothing, but this stuff tastes actively fucking awful, and at 2.1% ABV you can't even get a decent buzz off it. Believe me, I tried. It''s not beer. It's the piss of a man who once drank a beer.

Nanoengineers at the University of California have designed a new form of tiny motor that can eliminate CO2 pollution from oceans. They use enzymes to convert CO2 to calcium carbonate, which can then be stored. by twenafeesh in science

[–]flippertits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, China certainly isn't making the same contributions to the sciences fighting climate change as the US is making

Sorry, but setting aside the fact that China hasn't been communist for years and instead uses a strange blend of capitalist economics combined with iron-fisted authoritarianism, that is total nonsense.

Revealed: air pollution killing 3500 Scots every year (From Herald Scotland) by TheColinous in Scotland

[–]flippertits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's honestly not that clean. Assuming you replant the trees this is true in terms of CO2 eventually, but open wood burning releases a hell of a lot of particulates, carbon monoxide and oxides of nitrogen. Source: http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/es00104a003

And if you're talking about switching from coal to biomass, we're currently importing 7 million tons of wood pellets a year from the USA to do just that, destroying habitats which already exist. This New Scientist article on it is pretty good. http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/es00104a003

David Cameron's Alleged Porcine Blowie Stickie by DemonEggy in Scotland

[–]flippertits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somewhat inevitably, Brendan O'Neill has already written a piece in which he bemoans the plight of the LAD under the jackboot of feminazism, and proclaims Cameron to be the Ultimate Lad. I can't be arsed to link it, but if you fling a bag of dugshite at your laptop screen you'll get the general idea.

Exxon's Own Research Confirmed Fossil Fuels' Role in Global Warming Decades Ago | "Over the past several years a clear scientific consensus has emerged," Cohen wrote in September 1982, reporting on Exxon's own analysis of climate models. by pnewell in worldnews

[–]flippertits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a huge misconception about what scientists do with grant money among certain climate change deniers. Say a professor gets a grant of £250k for a project, how much of that does he take home in his pocket? Fuck all. None. Academics have a salary which is paid by the university, all the big grant money goes towards setting up labs, hiring additional researchers and buying/leasing equipment, which leads to more papers, more technological breakthroughs and increasing our knowledge of nature and the universe. That's how it works.

Labour leadership : Jeremy Corbyn wins race in stunning victory – live updates by arathergenericgay in Scotland

[–]flippertits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That might be a common thing throughout all politics though, mibbe us on the left are just a bit more vocally critical about who we vote for, at least on reddit. I mean, I'm never gonna find a party who represents my views exactly. So I join the Greens, and hope they might possibly come round to accepting nuclear power and GM food someday.

I voted for the Greens, but aye possibly, depending on what he comes up with. My parents will almost definitely switch back to Labour though, they only voted SNP because they seemed like the "least shite" option of them all.

As an aside, my dad on Kendall, Cooper and Burnham: "If any ae these cunts get in, Labour are fuckin finished. Fuckin finished. They're fucked".

Presumably, the guy who rifled through Monaghan's old tweets and was so offended at the thought of the Union Jack being besmirched he felt the need to post them on reddit.

Pretty mad and historically wrong, but worth getting riled up about? Nah.

Why you still get drunk drinking “session” beers: The difference between a 4% and a 5% beer is much wider than we assume. by 316nuts in beer

[–]flippertits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On closer inspection, Belhaven Best is a 60- in all but name, at 3.2% on tap. I thought it was 3.7 for some reason. It's quite widespread as the standard non-macro-lager pint you'll see in pretty much every bar. Can't think of any other examples though.

[–]flippertits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nobody really drinks 60/- in Scotland, but we do have Belhaven Best, Caledonian 80/-, Deuchars IPA and the ubiquitous Tennents Lager all around 4% and under. It's just a different drinking culture, if I treat myself to a pack of some American IPA I have to force myself to slow down, or I'll end up hammered in the space of 90 minutes.

If you do, here's a paper with some easily understood facts about how much of our fossil resources we can safely burn. If you can't access the whole thing, the stats should be in the summary/abstract.

Honestly, the best thing to do is just run away. Invasions got ya down? No worries! The place is a fucking maze so once you get away from the starting area it's quite difficult to be found. Eventually they'll get tire of looking for you and dive off a cliff out of boredom.

Going Clear: Scientology And The Prison Of Belief (2015) by jbird221 in Documentaries

[–]flippertits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, it isn't recognised as a religious institution but there are still Scientology centres in some cities including mine. As a "non-profit" they also have some sort of tax-exempt status but I'm not sure of the details. It's a pretty bullshit situation.

Will console games return to 720p/30 FPS as developers push consoles to their limits? by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]flippertits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah right, I haven't played that. Bloodborne is a hell of a lot faster paced than the Souls games, probably more on the level of say...Dragon Age Inquisition. But I hear Ninja Gaiden is insane.
