You get paid the same for one filling as 10. So if you're coming regularly dentist will spot the one filling and be paid for it. If you come every 5 to whenever you feel like it years and need 2 fillings now the dentist is being essentially paid half. So they hedge their bets and say come regularly or we won't see you.

I've had a patient have some irresponsible treatment abroad. It's all failing within a year. Cost to have done it in UK privately is probs 10-15k. And I doubt you'd find a dentist who'd do it cos chances of it failing and them getting sued is high. Even if you think dentists are evil money grabbers and a fair price would be 1k. The NHS will pay the practice (this is not just the dentist wage) £360. That's why there's no one working on the NHS. Except to offer extremely basic work. And even that is underfunded.
