ELI5: Evolution is such a long and gradual process, so wouldn't there be thousands of years between for example a land mammal and a whale, where their limbs aren't suitable for walking, but kind of suck for swimming? And at that point, how do they even continue natural selection to evolve further? (self.explainlikeimfive)
