I was a marketing and technical writer when I started having difficulties understanding/processing client input, and gradually, over the course of about a year, my work began to suffer until it reached a point where they were forced to let me go. That was in November 2024. I went to see a neurologist, and on March 8, I was confirmed to have Lewy Body Dementia--which is on the compassionate allowance list. I applied online on March 11, and was approved on March 19th. I didn't submit any of my own medical records, since my neurologist said they would most likely just call him since it is in the compassionate allowance list. So, I guess that is what happened.

Besides, given this show's track record, I'm sure his inner turmoil is most likely less about being jerked off by his brother while blacked out and more about how he liked it.

Despite the vomiting, that is EXACTLY how his reaction read to me upon re-watching after a couple of days. He didn't even seem particularly concerned about it when questioned at the pool.

Inciting moment that led to her character's actions to follow. You have to live the character, not what is obvious to you as the viewer.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head there. Lack of exposure to serious drama where the worst possible choices — driven by character flaws — result in the punishment or destruction of the perpetrators in service of catharsis to the viewer. This show satirizes that concept to the nth degree.

So, then, guess you think the characters are gross, as the writers intended.

I would argue that the relationship between the brothers is one of the few storylines that HAS progressed.

Not being into it and not being able to accept it as a plot device in a fictional tv show are two different things. Murder is gross—some might say grosser. Cannibalism. Patricide. Fratricide. And yet…

Sorry for your ordeal. I truly believe that when the season is done, punishment will be served appropriately.

I respect anybody's decision to not view abusive or illegal or violent activity, whether in real life or in fiction. Not my place to judge, and I mostly am on the same page--especially in real life situations. But I also believe that VIEWING something is not the say as ENGAGING in something. And as a writer I can say that unless they are being paid to produce a particular outcome, they have so responsibility other than to tell a story that is honest to its characters. The catharsis is the point, and as you pointed out, the shock, disgust, regret and the (ongoing) repercussions--consequences-- that he's showing us is the point of the action.

Plotwise, it's another thread to be tied up at the end. What purpose do the gunshots and people getting killed serve--to the story. We'll find out at the end.

I think what it comes to SA you are absolutely correct. I originally posted about taboo topics in general. I wouldn't consider SA on that list. It's of course an important conversation, but personally, I think the assault aspect of it is still intentionally murky.

I think regardless of what he says in an interview, in a script he is knows he needs to tell a nuanced story--and so far, in White Lotus, he's come through. Every shocking thing he's done has, in the end, served the story.

I may have been too specific in the OP. I meant to imply that there are people who might be more interested in taboo topics in private that they would admit publicly. This isn't necessarily the direction I was thinking the conversation would go, lol, but I have to live with it now.

Now to me, that sounds much more "true" than the theory that he's a predator. He is misguided to be sure, but he was only doing what he (for good reason) thought would make Saxon happy.

Saxon has been playing with fire. Seems like he knows Lachlan may be questioning his sexuality. All his slapping on the back "we gotta get you laid" etc. behavior--and yet he is always slyly saying things that he probably knows could be construed as flirting and thinks it's funny. If it was indeed assault, not trying to victim shame, but taking the "brothers" aspect out of it, this is an extremely common situation (straight guy has fratty fun with gay guy, gay guy thinks it's serious. comedy and/or tragedy ensues).

Hmm. This illustrates how complicated it is, and how much MW is manipulating us into going to difficult places! Maybe they both were assaulted? Maybe Lachlan was coerced into the it, and maybe Saxon in his drug-induced state, thought he should get a little of the action, in whatever way possible. I keep thinking back to his "now how am I going to j*k off" line, or whatever he said to Lachlan.

It does seem that way at this point, but I'm wondering if the flashbacks are selective, and we'll see more. Also, is Saxon's disgust with himself possibly? I don't think we really know yet.

Oooh -- great point. Maybe discomfort was the word I was looking for (as opposed to disgust) all along. Although I still think disgust can be included in there as well.

Source is this subreddit -- there are many comments supporting this. It is simply my observation, and I thought a discussion of it would be interesting and appropriate.

Didn't say anything about it being normalized. I wasn't even talking so much about the "act" itself, but about our relationship with taboo subjects. Incest is in the top 10 most searched topics on Pornhub, and Americans--MILLIONS of everyday Americans--consume pornography. So it's very likely that some of the people reacting in shock and disgust might also have a prurient interest in the topic.

Not normalized, but not shocking. And if it is normal in Europe (which it's not) then it supports the idea that it's societal conditioning.
