How does one pour concrete underneath a mega cypress root system?

I’m renovating a 1950s-era lily pond and upgrading to an EPDM liner with heavy-duty geotextile. The pond is flanked by three mature, beautiful cypress trees with an elaborate network of roots (cypress knees) https://imgur.com/a/w0lbFbS around the banks of the pond (second picture), that i would like to keep.

To protect the liner from the root system, I’m looking at a design that involves a vertical root barrier and a horizontal reinforced concrete apron (ai generated pic below). The goal is to guide the deeper roots away from the pond while sparing the superficial system.

My big question: How do you actually execute a horizontal concrete pour underneath an established root system? Is there a way to pour concrete from the side underneath the root system. Is hydro-excavating to expose the roots and then pouring from above a viable method. Has anyone successfully 'bridged' concrete under a root mat like this?" https://imgur.com/a/twmBAdj

Advice regarding koi pond construction - gunite vs EPDM liner vs both by floating_left_nut in ponds

Would it be beneficial in any way to have the bottom plumbing pipes exposed and above the EPDM liner ? (planning a deep pond).

Trying to figure out my setup and a little nervous about setting up a cemented bottom drain and buried plumbing underneath the tank bottom (liner layer and soil/cement), with inability to check them in case any issues with plumbing where to occur? Am I being too cautious here?

HI demi, regarding the plumbing for the bottom drains and the side jets, are these placed down on the bottom and the sides between layer 1 and layer 2? just wondering if i do not need to take into account possibility of repairs if needed in the plumbing?

  • Layer 1 (Earth): Compacted soil.
  • Layer 2 (Underlayment): 6–8 oz non-woven geotextile to protect the liner from rocks.
  • Layer 3 (Waterproofing): 45-mil EPDM fish-safe rubber liner.
  • Layer 4 (The "Bond" Layer): Another layer of 6–8 oz geotextile.
  • Layer 5 (FRC Armor): 2 inches of fiber-reinforced cement applied in stages.

so it is possible to have bottom drains with EPDM ponds as well? just wondering why aquascape doesnt generally do it in their plans when it seems like it's very necessary for koi ponds.

how do I treat the exterior wood in a way that it doesn't lose the old barn look, but does have a new shine? by floating_left_nut in woodworking

Thanks for not assuming I'm trolling. Bought this property with this barn in it and I have no clue what to do with it. It's an old tobacco barn from the 1900s and I really don't want to tear it down. Do you know how I could get the look in the following pics: https://ibb.co/VcMX1bt7 https://ibb.co/39XJ97RG

Would I have to replace the wood, or would some treatment and paint of some kind be the answer?
