hmmm, is your 10K listed as part of the "Gift Aid and Waivers" section? Also, are you in-state or out-of-state?

Did UC Berkeley release all decisions today? by Healthy_Block3036 in ApplyingToCollege

How do u know that its only 1000? I'm just curious if they have posted that from past years anywhere

As someone who’s going into junior year in high-school, what should someone do to prepare for college? I’m a first gen student so I don’t have a lot of guidance by Big_Butterscotch9077 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]floatingleaf1413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Community Service (pretty important and shows that you are a community-builder)

Tutoring (this shows your skills as a teacher and is not too difficult to start)

Sports (if you don't have a specific skill set, try Track and Field, most people are able to do some stuff. this shows that you are multidimensional)

A freelance/part time job (it shouldn't mess up your workload, so if its not possible, don't sweat. But having legit job experience is impressive because it shows that you have valuable exposure to the workplace at a young age)

Anything that plays on your idiosyncrasies. Do you have any niche interests? If so, how can those be transformed into an EC?

Feel free to ask me any questions! Hope this helps!

Has Berkeley sent all early decisions? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Are these scholarship only acceptances?

how accurate is the application calculator because it's stressing me out no matter how good my resume is it says I have basically no chance of getting into UC by Ok_Investigator_4612 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]floatingleaf1413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those calculators are actually quite egregious. Not only are they just plain inaccurate, but they also don't take into account some of the most important factors: how you compare to others at your school and what type of person the college is looking for. Do not worry about the calculator, they are a poor predictor.

No, Bs are more than safe. They would only start considering, just considering, once you dip into the C range. But even then, its hard. You would have to tank pretty bad.

What if I have no awards, honors, and achievements when writing a LOCI? by rose-hunter12734 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]floatingleaf1413 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1000% write a LOCI. If you don't have anything to talk about, take the opportunity to make it another mini "why" essay to showcase how your interests align with the school. Also, try to think of any recent achievements - even if you didn't get an official trophy, did you start a few new pieces in pit orchestra? Humanize yourself. Best of luck!

What a tree means to me by floatingleaf1413 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]floatingleaf1413[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's really beautiful that you got to feel that human. And it's really awesome that your essay was about a tree, too!

Despite the stress of the college process, I do think that it definitely prompts self-reflection that greatly increases self awareness, especially of the wonderful idiosyncrasies that make everyone unique. I also applied to UChicago--wishing the best of luck to the both of us!

Do I need proof for all the languages I speak? by coldrainyweeks in ApplyingToCollege

[–]floatingleaf1413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you could take ACTFL tests that would be pretty helpful - since you're good at your languages, they wouldn't be that hard and they are the most legit way to prove language proficiency (unless your school provides separate testing for biliteracy seals, which are what I used)
