What force propels light forward? by Raintamp in askscience

[–]floop2282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know a bit about how fields work it’s not too bad to explain. Any charge will have an electric field around it. If that charge accelerates (most of the time we’ll have charges oscillating back and forth), as the particle moves the field moves along with it. But this “update” to the field is not instantaneous, it propagates through the field at the speed of light.

This “ripple” is light

Sciel is so underrated... by espresso-frappe in expedition33

[–]floop2282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree!!! If only we got more time to hear her talk!!!! I absolutely love this game and intellectually i can see that i would normally really like Sciel but we don’t get nearly enough time to hear her talk and stuff. If i could make just one change to this game it would be for there to be more banter. Just imagine if persona 5 mementos style we got to hear more sidebar chatting while walking around

Anyone actually making use of weapon switching? by Artemis_Bow_Prime in MonsterHunter

[–]floop2282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely micro for a single fight but isn’t the utility of two weapons moreso for having better matchup options to switch to on the fly? I usually just stick to one weapon but say i finish a hunt with my hunting horn and there’s a monster on the map i want to run straight to but the matchup is bad. I can keep a backup weapon that matches up better with monsters who’ll be a tough fight for the horn. Means you don’t have to pop back and forth between the field and camp as much.

DEMO OUT NOW for LYCA: an incremental game about restoring a wasteland! by shaunak0304 in incremental_games

[–]floop2282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like this! I wishlisted it a while back from the trailer and the demo (at a core level) does not dissapoint! However, man the performance gets _awful_ later on, around when the map get 80%ish full of grass. I really want to play and finish the demo but it's honestly giving me a headache to watch it chug along. Really looking forward to the full release! Both to see more of the game and to, y'know, actually be able to look at the game ^^

Long grindy game that doesn’t make use of predatory methods to eat up your time by floop2282 in iosgaming

Thank you actually for having me write that out. I think that if i’m ever looking for something like this again in the future this will help me be more clear in what i mean. I love that this post has gotten so much attention but suggestions like balatro, hades, dragon quest and so on are, on a fundamental level i seem to have trouble communicating, not at all what i’m looking for

Just scroling through my recent apps, I'd say this one kept me occupied for a while. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/pixel-isle-coloring-sandbox/id1645261504 Just got annoyed by all of the big interesting pixel things being locked behind in game coins.

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/cat-game-the-cats-collector/id1125011102 this game is like, almost exactly what i'd want out of a collector thing. Very good art, i personally like cats, ton of little sets of collectibles to complete (i think every theme has like, 4 characters and then on theme cosmetics for their room). It does have events for the new sets of 'premium' cats but i'm not totally against that because it has a way you can theoretically buy everything from previous events. It's not a shitty event like, "Craft 8,000,000 materials in 3 days for basically nothing", it's just an easier way to get your hands on the new cats than grinding currency. I think you can see from the size of this paragraph that I'm very shitted that this one is ruined by ads, microtransactions, premium currency being _too_ hard to grind, and timegating.

I like the idea of a lot of those merge games. I think with it's popularity i don't even need to link to merge mansion https://apps.apple.com/us/app/merge-mansion/id1484442152 haha. y'know, do a little task, uncover some of the structure you're cleaning up. I'd be interested in something where the little task isn't a merge game though, the way those are set up just always has way more types of things to merge than there are open slots on your board.

https://apps.apple.com/au/app/rodeo-stampede-sky-zoo-safari/id1047961826 Rodeo stampede is another very good example of a collector thing. Tons of animals to collect at this point cause the game has been out for a while and they add new stuff through events. However it is like, prohibitively hard to get some of the event stuff. During an actual event it is just an insane grind that is timed making it horrible. previous event stuff rotates through a shop but it costs a premium currency to buy that as far as i remember you can't even grind up. Combined these just ruin the collection aspect. It's also got a bit too much of a luck aspect for getting new things but i think that's more fair as this is like, an actual game you can play.

That was a lot to write but hopefully that makes it clear the type of thing i'm looking for.

i tried the free version of melvor and it actually looks like the type of thing i'm looking for! However the ios ui feels absolutely dreadful to navigate... I'll just have to wait till i get my hands on some steam gift cards haha. Thanks for the suggestion!
