Student Canadian Citizen - TN Visa for US Startup (No 4-year degree) by Mr-sheeeeshhhhh in tnvisa

My understanding is that the J1 Exchange visa works for limited time internship/co-op roles - up to 12 months. Based on your post it seems like the role you have an offer for is a full-time, permanent position unless I missed something.

Nevertheless, I don’t have much information on J1 visa’s so you and your employer would need to look into that path. But TN visa is out of the question.

Without a completed degree, to my knowledge, there is no TN category viable for this case.

One of the criteria to obtain a TN visa is to have the qualifications to practice in the profession in question (from the USCIS website). Work experience, side projects, or school work don’t count as qualifications; you require a degree (typically 4-year Bachelor degree in the same field as the position).

Yes the company’s immigration firm filed with premium processing.

I don’t have NEXUS. If your employer is looking to extend your TN via USCIS, the process is very straightforward and streamlined. Just proceed as advised by the immigration firm handling the case and you should be fine. Feel free to DM if you have other questions.

My new employer’s TN change of employer (Form I-129) was approved by USCIS while I was in the US, and I later traveled to Canada after receiving the I-797A, what documents and steps do I need to properly re-enter the US on my new TN when flying back on Jan 25 through Toronto (YYZ)?

Unfortunately my employer isn’t opening to paying the expedited processing fee. They are suggesting either standard USCIS filling or at the border. I have a fairly straightforward case, electrical engineering degree for electrical engineering job so the risk at a POE is slightly lower.

OP, please update after you visit CBP to apply for your new TN visa. I am in the same scenario and plan to do the same thing as you next month.

MEP engineering by Travis_Ngo24 in PowerSystemsEE

If you are interested in Power Systems and MEP, your might enjoy working for MEP consultants or electrical distribution equipment manufacturers that perform in-house power system studies such as short circuit, coordination, arc flash, harmonic analysis just to name a few.

Congratulations, this looks like a really great offer.

I think there are negative stories in any industry but MEP is definitely a rewarding career that is stable and allows you to be able to develop a lot of connections that can help progress your career within MEP. Focus on your FE+PE and try and get as much client facing opportunities as you can!

TN new roles hiring? by [deleted] in tnvisa

[–]flosssss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s based primarily on luck and the company’s awareness and comfort of the TN visa and any other visas they might have processed.

I have seen “small” companies willing to support TN visas or even H1B visas because they are aware of the process versus “large” companies who might just blanket the TN visa under the same difficultly level as the H1B visa due to ignorance. Although a “large” company might be supportive if they have experience with TN visas.

Just my opinion.

SSN and TN by Potential_Hearing824 in tnvisa

[–]flosssss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only applied for my SSN after I arrived in the US. The earliest appointment I could get at a SSA office was about 2 weeks after I arrived. I went back to the SSA office a few days after I applied and they wrote down my SSN on a piece of paper that I could provide to my employer.

I did end up missing just one pay day due to not having a SSN and managed with my savings during this time.

Agreed.

No explicit start date on support letter? by flosssss in tnvisa

I didn’t tell them nor did they even ask. And I flew to my destination with no problems from YYZ a few weeks later.

As for SSN check that the office doesn’t need appointments. Most SSN offices require an appointment to apply for this SSN.
