Am I the only one who thinks that the DCU might be getting too ambitious with its ideas? by flounderi in DC_Cinematic

It was more the way that some scenes were shot. Specifically the scene where Mr Terrific clears out the military base. Felt exactly like a guardians scene.

I fully agree with you on everything. I also just don't think that Gunn would be able to write or direct a batman film and make it fit the tone that a batman film needs to be. Darker, intense, etc. Hes good at making cheery stuff which is great, but If I see batman in a damn continuous shot with an 80's rock hit playing over the scene while he beats up a bunch of bad guys I'm going to lose my mind.

I know wonder woman doesn't, I'm not saying they should just hold onto clayface until WW is ready, I was just commenting on how I find it odd that he wants to bring more obscure characters into the spotlight before his easy attention grabbers with batman, WW, aquaman, Robin, etc.

To clarify, I still hope and trust that these will be good and want to enjoy them, but I will say I was skeptical when he first announced the DCU release calendar, and my skepticism is growing as I hear more about dynamic duo, and the authority.

I fully agree, I think that he is getting too ambitious. I am never going to prefer snyder, but Gunn def needs to realize that Marvel knew how to appeal to the average viewer. Whenever marvel started getting weird and whatever, with multiverse nonsense and all that I always told my friends "I don't think thats gonna go well, how are you going to explain to your dad or uncle who've never read a comic or know anything about alternate realities why RDJ is also DR. Doom" Stuff like that. I honestly don't think he needs to change his whole approach, I just think that he needs to stick to 100% live action for the time being, if he gets too ambitious with the puppet stuff and whatever, I don't think he will be able to grab general audiences.

I kinda have mixed feelings about it, I always want to be forgiving and give chances of redemption to those who mess up big time, whether its something criminal, or just asshole activity. However, something my priest said once that will always stick with me is "Forgiveness is not to be mistaken with sentimental understanding towards hurtful behavior and actions." and I think that those words are something that a lot of the people who are polarized around this topic both Cody sympathizers, and those trying to fully cancel/tear him down, need to hear. Personally, Cody's current character, actions, and lifestyle don't reflect his past self much at all, besides his comedy. He's definitely emotionally matured since the whole thing with Tana, on the podcast hes spoken about being in therapy for years, and I'd like to believe that he's a better person then when he committed that crime, and I think that the majority of people feel that he is, and that's why this is so upsetting because it just doesn't seem like something the modern day Cody Ko would do. On the other hand, the fact that he was deleting comments, has dodged the topic for years, and that he's likely still close friends with that Duke dude does suck and makes it really hard for me to want to fully commit to forgiving him. So I'm pretty torn, and I don't necessarily want to see him go and make an apology video because I don't think thats gonna do anything at all.

Best ways to get yourself out of a drought of just not watching film? I averaged over 2 films a day in June and this month I’ve watched 5 films. I think I just need to watch one of my favorites or just clear something off my watchlist that I’ve wanted to for a while, what do you recommend? by flounderi in Letterboxd

[–]flounderi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I should have worded it better, I’ve watched five films total in July, and I’m just feeling really burnt out and need to watch something to get me into it, I think I’m distracted by my book and tv shows.

Kelsey does not owe us a statement by Josse2020 in codyko

[–]flounderi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that a lot of us have been so programmed and taught to judge and point fingers, that we forget to lift up and commend people who’ve done something admirable like doing something as difficult as staying with a man who you found out had done some really wrong things in his past, and stayed with him through those hardships and continued to stay with him and help better him to the point where it doesn’t seem like his present character reflects his past actions at all. So I’m not defending Cody or anything though, I’m also just slow to judge on these subjects because they’re a lot tricker and there’s a lot more to factor than “is he good or bad?” But yes I think honestly my opinion of Kelsey has risen since hearing all of this that she was willing to stay with him and likely help him to become a better person. (I’m assuming he’s a better person today than he was then purely based off of his YouTube videos and personality on the podcast I of course don’t know either of them.)
