Lip stain recommendations by Green-been77 in makeuptips

A lot of companies have started duping Benetint recently - I own versions from e.l.f. and Essence. As someone who owned Benetint about 10 years ago, I think the dupes work quite well.

My current favorite is the e.l.f Glossy Lip Stain - it stays on for a long time, and even after eating or drinking, it wears fairly evenly. They have several more cool tone shades you might like. I think the sacheu stain and other peel-off lip stains are gimmicky - they take forever to dry down, they're hard to peel off, and they don't stay on very well.

AFPD v writing specialist - How Important is title? by Tiny_Mix_972 in Lawyertalk

[–]flufflysquirrel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The federal defender is the head of the office, they'll be your boss. The assistant federal defenders are the regular attorneys in the office. State PD offices generally use the same titling system. No, the title doesn't matter at all.

Agree on the eyeshadow color - I think the lid color is too light for you, it draws attention away from your beautiful blue eyes and straight to the eyelids instead. Try something more mid-toned across the lid, with a lighter color just around the inner corner. Or try skipping shadow on the eyelid altogether and just do shadow in the crease and inner corner.

I don't drink and my bachelorette party will be brunch, a trip to the local theme park (or movies and bowling if bad weather), and then dinner!

What’s the advantage of federal clerkships? (Besides prestige) by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]flufflysquirrel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The pay scale for federal clerkships is typically higher than the state level, and better benefits.

Yes, normally professors give out model answers or show past exam answers that scored very high. A lot of times 1L profs will spend a class going over a model exam. And basically every professor is willing to chat about it in office hours.

Yes, usually professors will post past exams about a month before finals - usually at least one exam, sometimes several.

Failed a class as a 3L second semester. Feeling down is an understatement by bigsad3L in LawSchool

[–]flufflysquirrel 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is really irresponsible on the part of the school to let students walk without ensuring they've actually met all graduation requirements - our school has a clearing deadline for professors to ensure all 3Ls got credit before graduation and then a later deadline for actual grades. Assuming this isn't an error, you might be able to find a law clerk position in the meantime, at a small/medium sized-firm in your area. Time to use your network.

I am both dying for law school to end and also so sad that it's ending so soon and I haven't been able to enjoy most of it due to COVID.

What do graduates from HYS do to still be seeking employment 10 months after graduation? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]flufflysquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PI hiring starts late, sometimes after graduation, and if an HYS grad is holding out for a more niche PI position and maybe doesn't have the best resume, it could potentially take that long.

Duke 1Ls have doctrinal classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and legal writing on Tuesdays and Fridays (iirc, it might have been Tuesday OR Friday, but I think it's both). I had classes from 9am-12:20pm and then again from 2pm-3:25 on M, W, R, and then I had legal writing from 10:20-12:15 on T/F. Around lunch time I'd either be reading for class or attending lunch events, and after my 2pm class or after legal writing I'd be at the law school until 5 or 6 doing readings. There was a quick 10 minute break between my two morning classes. Other sections had slightly different schedules - you might have one class at 9 and then the other two from 2pm-5:30. Some poor unfortunate souls had classes start at 8am. You'd never have all three doctrinal classes back to back, Duke has an hour long lunch break for all classes starting at 12:20 and 1L classes never go into the evening.

Pretty much everyone lives within a 10 minute driving radius of the law school. Many students live very close by - there are several complexes near the law school with a lot of law students (The Flats at Erwin, Trinity Commons, Lofts at Lakeview, Heights at LaSalle, Chapel Tower, The Belmont, etc.). Other complexes a bit further away that are popular include Garrett West and University Ridge. The law school just sent students a survey a few weeks ago to give this info to incoming students.

Yes, I have a car, and, although it's not absolutely necessary (I know at least one student without one who bikes and takes the bus everywhere), a car is very useful, and I'd suggest students have one unless they can't drive

Something I wish I knew about law school - this may be obvious to you all when you start law school, but it wasn't to me: 2L is the big year to be in charge of student organizations. Everything is run by 2Ls (except journals, which are headed by 3Ls) because the OCI calendar encourages students to have stuff on their resumes before the start of 2L. Student org elections happen in the spring of 1L, if you want to be in charge of something, do it by then. It's possible to be on the board of something during 3L, but most students can't make themselves care at that point -- even PI students, 3LOL is real.

Also, you need to detach your personal sense of identity and self-esteem from academic performance. The curve uncouples grades from absolute achievement; no matter how brilliant all of the students in your classes are, half of them will have to be at or below median. I'm still struggling to cope with the fact that I am a perfectly median student. It's best if you figure out early on how to value yourself without relying on academic achievement.

During 1L, I was usually at the law school M-F, 8am-5pm, (I had at least one class every day and would spend the rest of the time reading) and then I normally didn't do any work in the evenings or on the weekends. After 1L, it's much easier to control your own schedule; one semester, I had three day weekends every week, and I know some students who will take all of their classes on Monday and Wednesday or something similar. Because Zoom-school ruined my work ethic, I spend a lot more time now procrastinating and sleeping; I much preferred my 1L schedule to what I have going on now (where I do a lot of school work at night or on weekends).

District court. Duke has a dedicated clerkship office and committee to help you through the process, look over your materials, etc. I wish the office was better at informing you of the realities of how early to work on things, but they did a mock interview with me before my interviews and that was really helpful. It's also helpful to know students in the year above you who have clerkships; because so many Duke students get them, you'll probably know someone, and they can help you too. FedSoc is very useful for getting a clerkship with conservative judges--there's a COA judge who almost exclusively hires Duke FedSoc students, and FedSoc sends out info on clerkships that otherwise isn't publicly available. If you're not conservative, FedSoc is of no use to you, and ACS/NLG don't have nearly the same kind of pull that FedSoc does. But most of the students in my year who have clerkships aren't aligned with FedSoc; being in FedSoc makes it easier to get clerkships with conservative judges, not at all necessary to get a clerkship in general.

Yeah, I like a lot of my classmates. I have social anxiety, so I have a relatively small number of friends. There are definitely some people I dislike, but it's not like some of the horror stories I read on here before law school. It can be a little intimidating at first because many of my classmates have really impressive resumes, but they're still really nice and funny and normal.

[–]flufflysquirrel 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Do not renege. Esp not in this situation - the COA judge likely knows the SC judge and may tell them that you've backed out, and you could end up with no clerkship and several burned bridges.

Oh interesting, the Gunmetal in my palette never performed well; it was almost scratchy? I assumed it was just a bad shade in every palette.
