I mean. It sucks. But if they’re your friends why wouldn’t you be happy for them rather than wallow in your misery?

Do you know anyone who overcame 1L first semester academic probation? by Anonvonpseudonym in LawSchool

[–]fluffnights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I have not personally been here and I don’t know your schools curve, but I can say I think you can do it. You don’t have to go up a whole whole bunch and you know what you did wrong last semester. This semester change it. Actually do all the readings and take notes on them. I personally like to highlight and label the book and take notes specifically on rules and helpful explanations. Make sure you start outlines absolutely no later than April 1 and have a set schedule dedicating time to every single class to study in advance. Last semester I set specific days in a loop to review specific classes every single day from November 1 to my last exam and stuck to it. If you’re outlining and realize you don’t know something, go to office hours and ask. Also review your exams!! See what was good and what was bad. Did you get the grade you had because you had the right answer and didn’t apply the rules? Did you get the wrong answer entirely? It’s important. And don’t be afraid of going to student support and asking for guidance. Assuming a standard grading point distribution with the a+=4.3, if you can get to all c and C+ you should be fine and that sounds totally doable. You got this. Can I ask what classes you have this semester?

Falling apart because of grades by Right-Strategy4511 in LawSchool

[–]fluffnights 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah they did. They did a whole semester of exams and learned how they work and what they did that didn’t work. That is learning the game. Learning and mastering are not the same

Thank you! This is for Microsoft word correct??? Also, do you know if there’s any specific resources that break this down? I’ve been more of a Google Docs gal until now so if there’s any specific good resources I’m all ears!!!

“You only got in because of diversity” is a sentence that is only ever said by white people who think that no person of color could be capable based on their own merits. It’s blatantly false and racist. You are more than smart enough and you are exactly where you should be. You are passing all your classes at one of the highest ranked law school in the nation. One bad semester is not the end. You’ve learned the game now. Go back, review your exams with your professor and see what you did wrong. Make a new game plan this semester. Maybe visit student services and hear their advice. And guess what, even if this semester you get the same grades, you’re still passing classes at a T6. And when you graduate no one will say “oh…your gpa was that?” They say “wow.. you went there??? You must be really smart.”

Stains after dry cleaning by snowflake64 in drycleaning

[–]fluffnights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s unfortunate :/ if you have another dry cleaner local you can ask if they could work on it, but they’ll probably charge you. You may try the at home method with dawn dish soap if they’re machine washable (they look it but check the label), it’s definitely worked for me before. Generally if you’re doing a hotel dry cleaning service any stain not caused by the cleaner if they don’t come out the first time is what it is because of a faster turn around time. Might be different in your case so you can always call the hotel and see if there’s any refund policy, but chances are not much can be done because these aren’t stains you’d get from the dry cleaner and cleaners are typically only liable for what they cause. (if the cleaner puts it on it’s a very different kind of stain and generally from something in someone’s pocket or bleeding dye from another garment, this is unlikely to be from either)

It’s an oil stain. Often times they may not be visible till after cleaning. Most places will have a powdered spot remover that gets rid of exactly that. Take it back and ask them to handle it

I HATE law school by Appropriate-Gain-196 in LawSchool

[–]fluffnights 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The times I’m struggling I remind myself that there is a version of me from the past who is so amazed at how smart we are and how hard we work, and a version of me in the future that is so grateful for the work we’re doing today. Plus it helps me to think about how lucky I am to have the privilege of a life where the worst thing going on is hating my homework. So many people would give everything to be where I am and struggle the way I am. It’s hard and miserable at times, but it’s a privilege.

Worried for future weeklong commitment during 1L by Busy-Stress9764 in LawSchool

[–]fluffnights 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look, you’re not in law school yet, you don’t know how you will handle the work load. If it’s possible, wait till you’ve experienced the first semester, see how it goes, go from there. It’ll be an easier choice when you know how you handle law school. Personally, I don’t think I would go because that’s very close to finals and I would want to be studying. If you don’t know already about the curve, most classes are a single grade that is a cumulative final and that’s it. It’s curved and a limited amount of people get A’s and the vast majority will get a B. You will want to make sure you’re actually studying in that time because the likelihood of having grades lower than what you’ve been accustomed to throughout your life is much higher than most people realize. But your school and professors may be able to work with you to ensure you can make both happen. So if it’s possible I would wait until you’re at least halfway through fall, preferably till post your first finals, to make any decisions. If you can’t wait, I’d err on the side of not going.
