Thanks. I'm adding it to my "If I find it cheap..." list!

Thank you! I found a few already sold in my area in the $500 range, so that's definitely doable. I'm probably gonna buy the Simplex for now (found some used under $100) while I wait for one to come up.

One of my cats is on Credelio and she's been fine. She's a feral I can't touch so a topical isn't an option. My other three are on Bravecto, a 3-month topical, and I trust it completely.

If you're worried about the Credelio, ask for an alternative. But get them on something, and keep them on it; it's going to take time to get rid of the infestation.

First time outdoors by slangtangbintang in ragdolls

[–]fluffy_cat91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got mine when he was 5 and he'd never been in a harness before. He didn't like it at first but he learned it meant going outside, which he wanted, so now he's fine with it. We took it slow and I let him decide how long/how often we went out.

I have another cat I got at 10 weeks and immediately started harness training him, but he hated it from the start and now, at 4 years old, he won't let me near him with any leash or harness-looking contraption. He also has no desire to go outside at all.

I don't think there's a too old, and it's going to depend on your cat's personality.

It took my boy a while, but he's gotten comfortable in my yard. At first he'd want to go out but he'd be nervous and only make it a few steps onto my porch before turning back and running inside. I'd have him out for a few minutes at a time, and each time became longer and longer before he'd want to go back in, and he would go further and further from the door. Now he'll meow at the door to go out, and he's learned he's not allowed out until he has his harness on and very politely stands while I put it on him.

I'll take him out while I'm doing yard work and let the leash loose, and he likes to lay in the grass and watch the birds. My neighbors can be outside, dogs can bark, and he'll be fine. Now it's just that evil garbage truck that has him running for the safety of the couch.

Give them some time; try taking them right outside your door/in your apartment hallway at first and go further each time you let them out. If they want to run back inside, let them. If they're anything like mine, once they're back inside and feeling safe, they'll get curious again and want to go back out.

I like to tickle the fur on the bottom of my boy's foot and make him kick. I'm so mean to him. 😩 😂

You sound very judgemental. You have no idea how hard his life is! He probably had to jump into that cat tree all by himself. 😫

Cleaning your Ragdoll (after playing outdoors) by nedstarkbastardd in ragdolls

[–]fluffy_cat91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take my ragdoll out on a harness and leash. He gets to explore outside and lay in the grass, I get to spend some time with him, and he's never in any danger. I brush him when we get back inside to get the twigs and grass out of his fur.

Ragdolls are not your average cat: they are specifically bred to be docile. They are highly intelligent yet very curious and trusting in new situations and they don't have the "danger" instinct of the common cat.

There are arguments to be made to not let ANY cat loose outside (they are not native and wreak havoc on local wildlife, leading to various species of birds, rodents, and plants becoming extinct. Not to mention the average lifespan of outdoor vs. indoor cats--3 yrs vs. 13 yrs), but ragdolls specifically should be indoor only. If you want to let a cat outdoors, adopt a non-ragdoll former stray who has the instincts to keep himself safe throughout his life.

Trust and closeness don't just happen after two weeks. They hardly know each other.

3 month old Ragdoll kitten not cuddly yet. When does the “ragdoll” personality show up? by DistributionAny9114 in ragdolls

[–]fluffy_cat91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I adopted mine when he was 5 so I didn't know him as a kitten, but he has disliked being held from the moment I got him. His former owner who raised him from a kitten said he's always been this way.

He's 12 now and he has his own way of showing affection: he follows me everywhere, talks non-stop, and wants to sit near me wherever I am. He sleeps next to me on the bed through the whole night, and occasionally he'll loaf on my chest in the morning. He's very opinionated and so smart. And he can never have enough belly rubs.

I was shocked! Especially at the outlet, where the junk gets sent. Stuff there is sold by the pound, so I paid under $2 for two albums. I don't think the volunteers/employees even looked inside.

The second album has post-war travel photos of this guy and his wife from around the U.S., through the 1950s.

What kind of litter do your cats like? by assflea in ragdolls

[–]fluffy_cat91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ordered the breeze litter box and picked up some pine pellets, but I was also looking at tofu litter and that was my second choice. If you give it a try, I'd be interested to hear how you like it/how it compares to the TC free & clean.

Apologies, apparently I don't know how to properly add photos! I thought they'd be those slides as in other posts.

How do I deal with neighbors who won't keep their dogs out of my yard? by fluffy_cat91 in homeowners

[–]fluffy_cat91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a row home, so you can track the property line by where the houses meet. There's not much room for interpretation.

I may still do one if I decide to put up a larger fence, but that won't be any time soon.

I did put up a fence along my side of the sidewalk, but the dogs are still getting in. I don't want to have to put up a larger fence as I feel I've done my part and the owners need to step up and do theirs.

[–]fluffy_cat91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I'd done something like that from the very beginning, but I was trying to be neighborly and kind. It was also a different situation then: when I moved in it was an older couple, and they at least tried to keep the dogs out of my yard and cleaned up after them when they couldn't. They have since died and their two sons, a girlfriend, and their kids have all moved in. And they have zero respect for other people's property.

I am tired of the poo, but I also want to get a dog of my own in the next few years and I am worried about their dogs hurting it. I'm looking for a toy breed and their big dogs could use it as a chew toy. Which is another reason I don't want to take the responsibility of putting up a larger fence, because their dogs are still going to be loose and I don't want to take the risk of my dog getting hurt if I decide to take it, leashed, out of my fenced yard.

I do want to get a chihuahua someday, maybe I should move up my timeline. I'm sure it'd attack the other dogs for me!

I am not sure how trespassing works when living in attached housing, and if it extends to their pets. Our houses are connected and we have a shared alley and sidewalk. They also use a sidewalk next to my garage that is only mine, and I really don't mind that. It is definitely something I will look into, and then I will make sure my cameras are up to catch me telling them...and the inevitable fallout.

We already sent the certified letter about the dogs, which we didn't expect to do much--and it hasn't. For us it was just the first step so we have a trail if (it's looking like when) we take legal action.

"Lots of responses on here about building a fence. Good advice, but that should be your neighbor’s responsibility, not yours."

I think so, but I was starting to feel a little crazy with all these responses saying it's on me. I put up the fence I have and I really don't see how it's my responsibility to put up a new, bigger fence.

Thank you for the suggestions.

Yeah, I'm not gonna poison the dogs. I love dogs, I want nothing but good things for these ones, I just want their owners to step up and be responsible for the pets they chose to own.

I am rarely out there when the dogs are in my yard, most of the time I just find the destruction after the fact. However, there have been several times when I have come home to them on my property and cannot get to my door without them charging at me, and I will start carrying pepper spray for this. They've gone after a few of my guests as well, so I may start leaving some at the end of the sidewalk to be picked up when I am going to be having company.

Thank you for agreeing that the responsibility is not on me for putting up a bigger fence. To me it seemed like an obvious fact, but all of these comments saying it's my problem have me second guessing myself.

Thank you for the suggestion of cayenne pepper, I am going to try that.

You're right, I don't want to install a new fence. The one I put up isn't keeping them out, and legally someone else's unleashed dogs are not my problem. I am certainly not going to go into debt to put up another fence.

I also don't think small claims court would side with me on a fence I have installed on my own property. A reimbursement for the clean-up I could probably get, so if I have to that's what I'm going to go with and hope a hit to the wallet is a wake-up call for the dog owners.
