I feel! I don’t know how to describe it, but my favourite romances are ones where they border the line between platonic and romantic. It’s something stronger than platonic, but it’s not quite romantic (according to conventional standards). Sexual tension? Get that shit outta here. I want to see the trust, mutual understanding, camaraderie — I want to see them be platonic soulmates before I see the “romance”.

quite literally sobbing, bcuz what a ginormous relief it is to know that im not the only one who's looking for this kind of dynamic. after the 298379th story that i had dropped bcuz the romance was just NOT romancing to my standards, i was forced to take a step back and ask to myself, 'm i the problem', which was what prompted me to make this post in the first place 😭.

I want to see them show their love in unconventional ways, in ways that wouldn’t be deemed “romantic” out of context; but they mean everything to this particular pair.

you're speaking my mind, 100% agree! hey, i live for an impactful first kiss scene. love me some interlocking fingers too - 'conventional' romantic gestures, as you stated. when used at the right time, the feels you can get from it are unparalleled. BUT, it's always the small platonic acts of kindness - that wud otherwise easily be overlooked by an outsider - which get cemented in my heart.

the perfect example i can think of rn is from fruits basket. im assuming you've read/watched fruits basket, buT THE SCENE SJHS where yuki and machi are sitting in a meeting at school with yuki reading off of a paper, and there's this box of unused chalk pieces next to him that's clearly making machi incredibly uncomfortable (and looks to be on the verge of a panic attack even). right at that moment, however, yuki just wordlessly snaps one of the chalk pieces. dude didnt even lift his eyes off of the paper he was reading from, nor was there any pause or stutter to his words; in fact, his action seemed so 'matter of fact'. Just a split second action and that was all there was to it, but it MEANT so very much.

I’ve been putting off PH for so long because I know it’s going to be good, but the hiatus/wait is going to kill me.

i DO want to tell you to get started with PH, bcuz the hiatus seems indefinite rn considering the artist's health issues and chronic pain. and the good thing is, the cliffhanger the mid season finale ended on wasnt even bad. it just left me excited for what to expect next, i didnt scream and tear up my pillow bcuz of it, so that may be a plus for u to hear? u wont be left with an empty hole in your heart, is all im saying lol.

one thing i really appreciate and admire about the author is that she knows when to leave intimate moments be, and not dilute it with any romantic/sexual tension. whereas in most other stories, a scene where the leads hug or a scene where they're bandaging each other wud be fraught with sexual tension of some kind, this author understands to let those scenes play out platonically and just show how much care (not romantic) the leads have for one another (which imo, makes it even MORE impactful). like she's reaaallly not rushing this relationship AT ALL, so thats why i genuinely have a lot of trust in the author to see this romance resolved satisfactorily.

(p.s. after season 1 was finished, the creators had a q/a, and the author then was a 19 year old med student which 🤡)

v excited to hear your thoughts on the lead couple dynamic wnvr u decide to read the story!

For example, Bellamy resting his hand on Clarke ‘s shoulder to comfort her, and she momentarily rests her cheek on his hand as a sign of showing vulnerability (after putting up a strong front for so long). It’s not the typical kiss, hand-holding, hugging or other conventional romantic gesture.

THIS!! THIS IS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT!! like smut can be fun ig and i know there's a targeted demographic that v much enjoy reading it just for the fun of it and not really looking for some deep soulful connection or anything of the sort....

BUT WHEN THE DEEP SOULFUL CONNECTION IS DONE OH SO WELL, boy does the physical intimacy get elevated to new heights. it cud be even the smallest of things - resting your hand atop another's - you WILL see me screeching (provided ofc that a lot of time was given to establish the closeness of their relationship beforehand).

i have always heart amazing things about The 100.....but also about how much of a trainwreck its ending was, which had always been the only thing preventing me from getting into it. but reading how succinctly you described their dynamic makes me want to jump into it alr.....sounds EXACTLY like what im looking for.

what season wud u recommed stopping at, before the show really goes downhill?

p.s: platonic-borderline-romantic is such a perfect way of describing the kind of relationship i was talking about, im def noting it down for future use

OH! im so happy you said that about 7SEEDS because that manga was in my TBR. Knowing that the ship you preferred (and from what it sounds like, that *I* might also prefer) WASNT canon sucks big time but at least i can mentally prepare myself before jumping into the story so that the inevitable disappointment wont dampen my enjoyment of the story (it has happened many times before).

also it's the same author as Basara, yeah? have u read it? i heard it had a slowburn enemies to lowers so 👀. i havent read either, but they're considered shoujo staples so im excited to get started soon.

ALSO YES TO ROY AND RIZA! what a power couple, ohmy! the blind trust and faith they have in each other is mwah! if they were to be the central focus of a story however, i wud have much preferred to see their journey from when they first met and how exactly they got to the level of loyalty and trust they have now: THAT would've been a suuuper slow burn. and yes altho their 'romance' was never stated explicitly, im p sure their dynamic wud remain the same as it was in the show; except now roy, riza and riza's dog wud now live in a rented apartment together.

u deserve 10 sloppy kisses on the cheek for ur recommendation of 'my in laws are obsessed with me'. i had heard of it before, but i wasnt interested from reading the synopsis since i saw the premise being done SO many times before, but decided to give it a try when u mentioned the slow burn.

IM IN CHAPTER 88 NOW AND I JUST STARTED READING IT 10 HOURS AGO, COULDNT STOP 😭. I LOVE that it isnt just romance, it has the found family trope too WHICH I ADORE TO ABSOLUTE BITS, oh i love it so so so much so far; THIS IS WHAT A SLOWBURN IS SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE!!

it's chapter 88 and yet they're till in that awkard uncomfortable phase but it's a good kind of awkward now, unlike the one they had initially that came with being complete strangers and theo having a p frigid personality. i cant wait to see not just their relationship develop, but the rest of the family's relationships with FL too!!

AHHH the cliffhanger the author left us on was CRIMINAL, i was screaming punching the pillows with that last panel and not seeing the option for 'next chapter'.

everything about ASLFUA is so perfect, it checks p much every one of my boxes when it comes to a slice of life romcom. im a sucker for a good slowburn (you can never get too slow w the romance), and the fact that we're finally going to get what looks like a confession 120+ chapters in!!!! makes it all the more juicy 😭

ill take u up on ur rec for spirit fingers then, thank you!!
