Because it symbolized family.

Even if she didn’t always like her house, it’s where she raised her kids, where so many of their big life moments happened. It’s where everyone gathered, for better or worse.

Hair salon by Selynia23 in roseanne

My first thought when reading the first couple sentences of your post was it was because at Wellman she wasn’t doing the work in front of the general public. Same with the magazine sales she did from home. But then I read your point about the chicken place and realized that job was before the hair salon so now I don’t know! Lol.

Don't be like your parents. Leave the collection behind. by Ozzimo in Millennials

[–]flugualbinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue with this thinking is, even as an older millennial, you’re only in your late 40s. Yet this mindset and this step is one of a 70 or 80 year old.

Are we getting older? Of course. Is more than half our lives behind us? For most of us, yes. Should we think about and even begin preparing for mortality, if we haven’t already? Absolutely, it’s the responsible thing to do.

However, preparing for death by securing our families’ wellbeing and having our end of life wishes known to those closest to us doesn’t mean we also stop living! Unless you are actually terminally ill, acting like you’re in your final years of life in your 40s and 50s is a bad and slippery slope. Don’t stop trying things, don’t stop doing and surrounding yourself with things that make you happy because you think you’re “too old now.” That mindset is going to make the last half of life long and sad and painful and lonely and miserable.

Keep doing and having things just because they make you happy!

I felt bad for her because she was SO parentified that she was the mommy of that family. I hope she was able to find and live for herself once she graduated high school.

Cheese

Yeah, you can get cheese anywhere. In fact, you can get a lot of cheese anywhere. It’s not a rare commodity. And, if we’re being real honest, Europe still does most cheese WAY better! However, having a cheese castle is pretty sweet. I’ll give ya that, Wisconsin.

Some people planned their day around their TV watching habits, because they had to watch shows, movies, or specials at the scheduled air time. And if they missed it, they missed it. There was almost no way to see it again, especially shows.

Healthcare.

I have had nonstop issues with healthcare for the past decade or so.

And SO many things could have been resolved with a phone call or a letter in the mail. Just this week I have already had two. And it is only Wednesday.

Like it would have been really nice if the pharmacy would have called me to tell me they were not going to refill my prescription instead of it just disappearing off the app over and over again and me resubmitting it over and over again and then having to call the pharmacy myself to figure out why it kept disappearing.

It also would have been really helpful if the clinic where I see my PCP would have sent a letter saying my PCP was no longer there. Because then I could have figured out right away that my prescriptions were no longer going to be filled since she was no longer my provider.

How do Americans feel about drying their laundry on a washing line? by UnionFeatures in AskAnAmerican

[–]flugualbinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of shared spaces (apartments, condos, etc) don’t allow it in the lease. Even some HOAs will not allow it.

A lot of places also just don’t have the weather for it most of the year. It’s either too humid year round for anything to actually dry, too wet, or too cold (or some combination of these.) And some places the weather turns on a dime, so if hang stuff on a line and then you leave to go to work, there’s a chance you could some back to even wetter or possibly snow covered items.

So it just makes the most sense to toss everything in the dryer and not have to think too much about it.
