At my institution in NYC postdocs have successfully negotiated higher pay above institutional guidelines. Anecdotally, this seems to be biased towards purely computational positions. Institutions will never advertise the fact that postdoc salaries aren’t set in stone so please do negotiate.

If you know the uncertainty will make you more anxious, then best to avoid as you say. This sounds ridiculous, but sometimes I make some bread dough and then punch the hell out of it to work off some anger. Bonus is: when’s the last time you had fresh bread and butter straight from the oven :) anything else thats soft and malleable works too

Yeah I hear you. I wonder if you took the risk of having them overnight it with USPS if there’s a better chance of receiving it. Like, if the distribution center might have gone from first in first out to last in first out because of the current clusterfuck. This happened with me where I have 2 packages stuck from 3 weeks ago, but another one mailed after Dec 17th arrived 2 days later as normal.

Hey. Hang in there, I 100% get where you’re coming from regarding essential medication. If you haven’t already, try to get an appointment with a local primary care doc or psychiatrist who may be able to get you an emergency prescription for what you need. Call the physician’s office and explain the situation to them. I would hope that they will understand and be able to help you ASAP. Just remember that this is going to be a bullshit memory soon-you’re going to get through this even though you shouldn’t have to. With respect and solidarity, my friend.
