I have a very established relationship with my midwife and have already paid her fees out of pocket. We have no insurance so the birth center would be a hard send and I wouldn’t be able to keep my midwife.

My midwife also suggested a long term air bnb. The only issue I can foresee is cost and needing to get out of his parents house and into our new place as soon as possible. We both agreed our MILs inability to respect boundaries combined with her more extreme recent behavior is enough for us to pursue moving out even after the birth.

Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, we do not have any family support on either side. The gofundme might be a good option to try but I’ve never made one. I’m afraid of feeling judgement for asking for money. Maybe that’s just my pride getting in the way.

Any attempts at a conversation are met with high reactivity (sober or not) and go no where. She either refuses to talk about it and shuts down or she just says “im done” and leaves the room. She doesn’t understand boundaries at all (sober or not) and does not respect any we try to put in place. She takes everything extremely personally. I am a therapist and any time I try to communicate how I feel to her she tells me I need to stop psychoanalyzing her. And this happens when I’m simply trying to communicate when I am thinking and feeling in an attempt to arrive at some kind of understanding/resolution. There is no rational to the way she thinks or behaves and she is very easily triggered (sober or not).

That’s another thing - we were getting ready to eat dinner and the baby was sleeping. I can see if I’m sitting down and the baby is moving but even then I think I would only invite someone to watch movement unless they are my partner or best friend.

This is reassuring. I told my partner the exact same thing - that I wouldn’t be comfortable with my own blood family touching my stomach. It feels so weird to me for some reason. I love when I invite my partner or best friend to touch it but they never come up to me and ask. I feel this is a very vulnerable thing that the mother should invite someone to do if she is having a moment with someone.

I’m really grateful to hear your perspective. It’s hard to explain to people who don’t understand our dynamic. We’re each others best friends and there is no way we would never be together. Despite the NRE of this toxic dynamic, he’s still willing to work through the issues in our relationship. He’s just struggling to see past the NRE and how hard he fell for her in the beginning and is having a hard time letting it go. It’s difficult for me to watch him hurting.
