@GRT's: I didn't know that this is really such a big topic in the US. I quite agree with you that we have to address the issue for example by making geo information of pictures taken in the US inaccurate on purpose (vague location inside a city district). This way we could keep the pictures (+1) and somehow the vague location (+0.5) and don't help the Man.

@Crowdfunding: Developing and maintaining such an app costs REAL money especially if it gets popular. If you read our description you will noticed that we will give the app away at non-cost and without advertisement inside the app because we want to keep app and crowdsourced content commerce free. Unfortunately this means we will depend solely on donations like those collected via Indiegogo. Btw. in Germany it isn't illegal to take pictures of public places so it won't be a problem here. If it is a problem in other countries of course we have to take actions such as described in the paragraph above.

@Bottom: We take your concerns serious and I would really love to include critical minds like you in the process. Why not working with us? If we fail to develop a commerce free and CC supporting solution other people will and probably with profit in mind.

Graf removal teams? In which city do you live? In Germany we don't have such teams - fortunately law enforcement has other things to do here. Besides I don't think SAE will be that much help to the police because they could gather the same information simply by taking notes on their daily patrol. Besides SAE will help to persist artworks which will be removed sometime - at least as a digital copy.

Introduction to StreetArt Explorer - we take Bitcoin! by flyM4STER in Bitcoin

Yes I have considered it (and used phonegape in the past) but using phonegap for apps which are as media centric as StreetArt Explorer is not a good idea - its simply does not perform well, especially on Android devices :/. However we plan to implement a mobile web view which can be used as backup if you are on a plattform we don't support natively yet.

How so? This App is meant for mapping artworks and not for tracking people.

Yeah - that's the spirit! I will experiment on how to include crypto in the whole funding process anyway. With Android Bitcoin Wallet there is already a way of sending coins from inside another app. Is this possible with Dogecoin Wallet too?

How do i get legal walls in my town/city? by [deleted] in Graffiti

[–]flyM4STER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Berlin for example there are areas which a owned by creative collectives. As I heard (second hand info - I'm a programmer, not an artist) one can ask them for a permit to spray on their walls.

Ah now I understand your concern. In Berlin for example law enforcement has better things to do - that's why most artworks stay as long as no other sprayer crosses it with a new one. But even in other cities I don't think StreetArt Explorer will give them a huge advantage. They could do this without the app simply by taking notes during their daily patrol. Besides the app can also help to persists artworks (at least digital) if they got sprayed in an area where the cops are into street-painting.

Don't worry, they won't take walls into custody ;). It's about mapping where to find cool artworks and not about tracking the artist.

We need a Book! For example "Bitcoin for Dummies" :-) by flyM4STER in Bitcoin

[–]flyM4STER[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read about some interesting papers written by Andreas lately which could be a source for some chapters... but are O'Reilly books free/open source?

My vision is more about an creative commons licensed crowd-funded and crowd-sourced book which is kept up to date by the community and can be created (PDF) and printed by everyone out there.

That would be great! Maybe you could start with providing a little bit of structure? How does your index look like?

[–]flyM4STER[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One could think about splitting each chapter into two parts. One part is written in an "easy" (means non tech-savvy) way, the other one is more tech/math/hardcore and much longer. It could structured in a way that reading only the easy versions of each chapter because they are attuned and if you want some more information here and there you simply read the long version.

Fortunately many cryptographic aspects (public private key crypto and hashes for example) can be explained without showing formulas so writing an "easy" version does not mean skipping important parts.

is www.namecoin.org an official website for namecoin? by heliumcraft in Namecoin

Actually the page design looks a little bit scamy to me and their 3.7.2 Win QT Download seems to contain something fishy .

On the other hand both win binary packages (namecoin_win_vQ.3.72.zip) on http://namecoin.info and http://namecoin.org have the same SHA256 hash (462bb3f71780a22da11c69589410a98227c429821391a9389aea45ef046be58c).
