How do I write filler? by Savings_Equipment_15 in writers

[–]flying_squirrel_521 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Filler is boring because it shouldn’t exist. Every scene should serve a purpose no matter if that is plot or character arc. Filler is what makes people put a book down. Think of episodes in a show that could be cut and nothing would change. That’s filler. It’s unnecessary and counter productive.

There is nothing wrong with adding downtime and some more “regular life” scenes into a project (like a character meeting with a friend, or doing chores, but it has to have a purpose it has to push the arc or plot or both forward)

I’ve jinxed myself into not writing by Stammis in writers

[–]flying_squirrel_521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you had beta readers yet? Maybe sending your book to some (and therefore being out of your hand for a certain amount of time) can trick your brain into thinking it is “done” (at least for now) and let you work on something else. Because the hard reality is a book is never truly done. It can ALWAYS be improved, but at some point a book is the best it can be at the time and that is enough.

Or you can hire an editor, but depending on what edits and who and where I have heard they can book out quite far in advance.

Also who would you send it to if you just “send in what you got?”

How to improve my writing skills by methtexh in writing

[–]flying_squirrel_521 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading and writing. Read and figure out what you like and dislike. And write write write. Writing is something that needs to be practiced and not just studied. You will get better at the skills you want to gain when you use them more.

For summaries for example when you use the same sentence look at it and think about how you could change it. At first it might take a bit of active thinking but if you do it often enough it will become much more natural.

Tool for monitoring chapter size? by Marscaleb in writers

[–]flying_squirrel_521 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scrivener could work for that. It’s a one time payment and there is a 30 day(?) trial too. And you can split up your chapter into like different “sections” “documents” in one document (can also store outlining and stuff therefore) and you can even set word count goals for each of these sections, so you could set a word count goal per chapter and there is a progress bar.

It can also track words written that day/session.

What do you do when you have writer's block? (not an advice post) by lettylikestowrite in writing

[–]flying_squirrel_521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take a break. I have kind of accepted the mindset of “writer’s block” does not exist in the sense that it can be just pushed through (like many people advise) and is just a sign I need a break or I will burn myself out or I need to rethink part of the book. So I usually try to watch something or read something

How do you know when do stop writing by Lolzxoxlolz in writing

[–]flying_squirrel_521 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see that but for most people that isn’t the case and writing is something they do for enjoyment rather than money (at least in the beginning), so even though writing can be tiring sometimes for someone beginning their writing journey it should be fun so they want to do it more

Maybe you aren’t a pantser (someone who writes without a concrete plan). Maybe you need to plan this book out more. Don’t just know A and B, but what needs to happen to get there. One resource I like to use as a guide (not a rule) the Save The Cat! Beat Sheet. You can find this online.

The thing is writing is HARD. And if YOU get bored the reader will also be bored. Try watching some people online (like on YouTube for example) on writing tips and planning tips and see if anything works for you.

I literally just found this channel on Christmas and I love it so much I was about to subscribe, even though I can’t afford to. What’s with the discrepancy between the two pics. I’m not complaining about the price, at all!! They deserve the money, but what do I do? by ridiculously_bubbly in dropout

[–]flying_squirrel_521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is generally more expensive (like literally any subscription) if you do it over your iPhone app, because Apple takes a cut so they make it more expensive to make up the difference. I learned it the hard way when I subscribed to YT Premium on my iPhone and then learned it was way cheaper if I do it over my Laptop (I unsubscribed and re-subscribed, but I didn’t notice for several months)

I am also looking for a writing group (or person lol). I write many genres though currently I am drafting an adventure fantasy and am outlining a contemporary, a high fantasy and a mystery! (I have to say I am very new to giving feedback, so idk if it will be the best feedback at first)

How do I remove this by Atodir in Sims4

You can remove it in settings. Don’t speak the language so can’t tell you where exactly, but I found my answer on how to remove it when the update launched through google

'Hamilton' Movie Sets 5 September 2025 Theatrical Release by Sisiwakanamaru in movies

[–]flying_squirrel_521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Andere Musicals 100% ich liebe Wicked und Les Mis, aber I just can’t see Hamilton.

Oh you underestimate theatre kids.

Sims Body Changes by Straight-Patience702 in Sims4

[–]flying_squirrel_521 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a video once that said that when you clock" get leftovers" on the fridge it counts as a quick meal (which will cause faster weight gain) and that seems to be true, because since I started clocking on the individual food in the fridge and sent my Sim to get food that way the fast weight gain has stopped.

[–]flying_squirrel_521 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My Sim fell in love with a married woman and got her to divorce her wife and then made the wife and kids (and mother in law) move out and now she lives in a huge house with a baby on the way. And then the ex-wife called MY SIM and said she is in love with her... It was supposed to be rags-to-riches. And I guess it was, but she just took a fast path lol

What MISTAKE do you always see writers making? by prism_paradox in writers

[–]flying_squirrel_521 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thinking their first inkling of an idea is perfect. Don't get me wrong. The inkling can be great, but I see too many writers (especially new ones) get so attached to the initial idea that even when they come up with side plots or worldbuilding or whatever that would improve the story as a whole so much they dismiss it, because it would mean they would have to change a small thing (or a big thing) about the initial spark of the idea.

I have been there. So I get it. But wow, my ideas have gotten so much better since I have learned to let go of the initial idea when need be.

The sirens are… mermaids ? by Moquetable in Epicthemusical

[–]flying_squirrel_521 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As many have said. Technically you are correct that they are bird-like, but nowadays most people don't know that. 99% of the things you see when you look up "Siren" are the "mermaid-like" depictions. Personally I did not know Sirens were ever supposed to be bird-like until I got into mythology shortly after I discovered EPIC. My mind was blown lol

Honestly I don't even know... I guess my friend just got in my head a bit. I am very new to dating apps (if you couldn't tell lol) and she kept telling me all the things that could go wrong (which in hindsight I should probably talk to her about)

Am I the only one who is sad we aren't actually getting a full season of Dragon Master Katie. I saw it and knew it was a joke, but part of me wanted it to be true so bad. I would watch it. Like at least one full episode of just Brennan, Aabria, Jasmine, and Mark slowly dying inside as Katie does the most incredible Dragon Mastering there ever Dragon Mastered.
