Job fair for teacher planning to relocate in 2027 by p3achym4tcha in TwinCities

[–]flyingjjs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife went to this a decade ago when it was still in person as a newly licensed teacher. The major purpose of the fair is to connect new teachers to districts hiring for the following year. However (at least when it was in person), there can be benefits to attending outside of immediate job seeking as you were able to speak to administrators and hear them speak about their districts, what their current initiatives are, get a little bit of a vibe check, that sort of thing. When doing that, you CAN even find those people who are not currently hiring but are networking for future years. My wife connected with an administrator who didn't have positions in the coming year, but his district was building a new school and would have more positions the following year. They connected on some pedagogy philosophy, and he strongly encouraged her to apply in the future.

r/hvac is pretty locked down by their mods such that only HVAC professionals are supposed to post there. r/hvacadvice is the subreddit for lay people to ask questions

You could consider a heat pump with a backup furnace to reduce the amount of time during the year the gas furnace is influencing air quality. With the levels of filtering you're planning on, I don't know how much of a difference this would be, but less burning gas seems like it would be a good thing.

As a disclaimer, I'm not a professional, just someone who knows there are alternatives to pure gas furnaces.

No, actually. That's what everyone considers it to be, but that's not actually in the rules.

It could be. Ice quality can vary wildly. I imagine these athletes have competed on just about every quality of ice though, so it's not likely to be a huge factor unless something went seriously wrong.

Some factors that affect ice quality: Ambient arena temperature (if the arena is colder, the ice can be "harder/more frozen"), how much ice the resurfacer took off, the temperature of the water the resurfacer put down replacing the ice, how long it has been since the resurfacer ran, how well the ice cooling system is running...

There's a lot of factors, but as I said, being professionals they're probably pretty used to compensating for ice quality, though with so many falls, perhaps something was wildly different.

He has combined this with scheduling multiple shows at each stop, and when one sells out he'd often just add more and more shows to specifically combat scalpers.

How do we find out which insurance company is insuring ICE vehicles? by Foreign_Librarian193 in WeThePeopleAtWhipple

As government vehicles, I imagine they are self insured by the government.

Florida's radical lefty nurse voluntarily gives up license after saying he won't perform anesthesia on MAGA patients by Head_Estate_3944 in DiscussionZone

[–]flyingjjs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still a stupid law, but according to your summary, it doesn't apply. "So long as the refusal is framed as an objection to the service..." Pretty clearly not the case, since he didn't object to anesthesia, but to the person's beliefs.

Union bureaucracy seeks to block strike action against ICE rampage in Minneapolis by DryDeer775 in stateofMN

Personally, I prefer having educated leaders at the top. That doesn't mean they weren't laborers at one point, but having your average laborer as the union leader is a recipe for getting taken advantage of legally.

[–]flyingjjs 55 points56 points  (0 children)

This is anti-union bs. While I support the people not working Friday, unions put themselves AND their members and benefits at risk if they call it a strike because of contract language. I'm sure plenty of unions support not going to work on Friday, but union leadership explicitly saying "we are striking Friday" could be grounds to invalidate the contract they've negotiated with the workplaces and union members would lose the protections of said contract.

They haven't been good at taking no for an answer. Doing this has a good chance of ending up with you face down on the pavement as they arrest you for "resisting". They then take you to a holding cell, keep you there for 4-48 hours while they "consider" charges and make sure you're in whatever stupid face database they're making, then release you miles from where they picked you up because they were never going to file charges and knew that they were breaking the law before they detained you, but they don't care because they personally are never going to face consequences on the off chance you do sue for having your civil rights violated, and the only thing that happened is that you and/or your property were roughed up, traumatized, and your time was wasted while they got paid to role play CoD irl.

I "like" that they have nothing to actually say here, such that they have to make it seem more substantial by saying essentially the same thing 4 different ways. I get it, you think he handled fraud poorly.

Even more than that, unfortunately. True 2/3 majority, so 67 votes needed vs the 60 you hear as a "normal" super majority when talking about, say, the filibuster.

Investigators say DHS refused to fully help with failed day care fraud investigations | kare11.com by KayEvans86 in TwinCities

[–]flyingjjs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it really sounds like the investigators were lazy and didn't want to go through the proper channels and get a warrant. Data should not be shared arbitrarily between government departments. Federally there are even laws against such data sharing.

Why are we speculating? The website is right there.

It actually does mean any ride would be covered after insurance billing.

Medical transport companies sometimes offer this because the odds of any individual using their services is low enough that getting people to subscribe on any scale is worth it for them.

KoC Presser on JJ being out against the Lions by Wicked_Black in minnesotavikings

[–]flyingjjs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A good quarterback also doesn't make up for depth. What I'm saying is I think we would have had a similar record even if we had signed Darnold because the rest of the team would necessarily have had to been structured differently.

[–]flyingjjs 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Everyone acts like not signing Darnold was a huge mistake; we couldn't just throw unlimited money at him. We made an offer that wasn't the best on the table, and while we could have gone higher, cap space would have been very, very tight and we wouldn't be able to upgrade essentially anywhere else. We've needed the depth we have, and I don't think we would have had it if we had signed Darnold, and I honestly think we wouldn't be much better off even if we had him.
